Acceptability of HPV Vaccination in Young Students by Exploring Health Belief Model and Health Literacy

2022

Evidence on the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine shows that it is effective in reducing the burden of HPV-related diseases. For more than 15 years the HPV vaccine has been offered free of charge in Italy to girls from the age of 12. Over time, the free offer of the HPV vaccine has also been extended to boys and to young adults at risk of developing HPV lesions. Despite the HPV vaccine’s effectiveness and availability, vaccination coverage is low in Italy, with a reported value of 46.5% in 2020. Furthermore, in the southern administrative regions, vaccination coverage is even lower than national values, with 25.9% coverage in Sicily. A cross-sectional study was conducted among university a…

Differential effects of anandamide on acetylcholine release in the guinea-pig ileum mediated via vanilloid and non-CB1 cannabinoid receptors

2001

The effects of anandamide on [3H]-acetylcholine release and muscle contraction were studied on the myenteric plexus-longitudinal muscle preparation of the guinea-pig ileum preincubated with [3H]-choline. Anandamide increased both basal [3H]-acetylcholine release (pEC50 6.3) and muscle tone (pEC50 6.3). The concentration-response curves for anandamide were shifted to the right by 1 μM capsazepine (pKB 7.5 and 7.6), and by the combined blockade of NK1 and NK3 tachykinin receptors with the antagonists CP99994 plus SR142801 (each 0.1 μM). The CB1 and CB2 receptor antagonists, SR141716A (1 μM) and SR144528 (30 nM), did not modify the facilitatory effects of anandamide. Anandamide inhibited the e…

The cAMP Pathway Sensitizes VR1 Expressed in Oocytes from Xenopus laevis and in CHO Cells

2003

The vanilloid receptor 1 (VR1) is a heat-activated cation channel which also responds to capsaicin and other chemical stimuli. Protein kinase C has a stimulatory effect on VR1 activity, either alone or after activation with capsaicin. The influence of the cAMP-signaling pathway on the effects of capsaicin is controversial. To clarify this, the actions of capsaicin and the modulatory effects of forskolin, pCPT-cAMP, and isobutylmethylxanthine were studied in Xenopus laevis oocytes expressing rat VR1 and in CHO cells expressing human VR1. Capsaicin activated the VR1 channel and increased the intracellular calcium concentration. The effects of capsaicin were enhanced by fors…

EU transition in power sector: How RES affects the design and operations of transmission power systems

2019

In the past, much of Europe's electricity grid network has been designed in consideration of the locations of conventional generation plants. However, a large share of today's renewables production – notably variable wind and solar – does not correspond to this grid architecture. Interconnectors, in addition to internal infrastructure, are key to creating new electricity corridors to connect areas of surplus to areas of scarcity. In this context, in 2014 the European Council, in recognizing that a fundamental role of transmission infrastructure is to enable the integration of areas of high renewable energy potential with main consumption areas, endorsed the proposal by the European Commissi…

The PVT-1 oncogene is a Myc protein target that is overexpressed in transformed cells

2007

The human PVT-1 gene is located on chromosome 8 telomeric to the c-Myc gene and it is frequently involved in the translocations occurring in variant Burkitt's lymphomas and murine plasmacytomas. It has been proposed that PVT-1 regulates c-Myc gene transcription over a long distance. To get new insights into the functional relationships between the two genes, we have investigated PVT-1 and c-Myc expression in normal human tissues and in transformed cells. Our findings indicate that PVT-1 expression is restricted to a relative low number of normal tissues compared to the wide distribution of c-Myc mRNA, whereas the gene is highly expressed in many transformed cell types including neuroblastom…

A Study on the Measurement Instrumentation for a Custom-Made Bipendulum Impact Testing Machine

2008

Experimental investigations of structures under impact loads are normally carried out by means of drop-weight testing rigs, which are often tailor made, and require sensors for fast transient measurement of mechanical quantities (namely, force, displacement, velocity, and absorbed energy). Since these tests are quite expensive, time consuming, and, often, not repeatable, the sensors must provide reliable and interpretable results in the first trial. In this paper, a thorough study on the measurement instrumentation suitable to carry out reliable low-velocity impact tests by means of a custom-made bipendulum impact testing machine is presented. Attention has been focused on the choice of the…

Eiropas migrantu krīzes ietekme uz radikāli labēju-populistisku partiju popularitātes vairošanos: Vācijas, Apvienotās Karalistes un Latvijas gadījuma…

2017

Recombinant mussel protein Pvfp5β enhances cell adhesion of poly(vinyl alcohol)/k-carrageenan hydrogel scaffolds

2022

Polymeric hydrogels are increasingly being considered as a scaffold for tissue engineering because they show similarity to the extracellular matrix (ECM) of many tissues. To control various cellular processes, hydrogels are often functionalized or loaded with various bioactive molecules such as: specific ligands for adhesion receptors, growth factors, hormones, enzymes, and other natural or synthetic regulators of cellular behavior [1]. Cell adhesion is essential for cell communication and regulation of the cell cycle and is therefore of vital importance in tissue engineering. Biomimetic approaches have been investigated to facilitate cell-scaffold adhesion interactions. In particular, the …
