Legumes in 21st century Europe: present and future importance in agri-food systems? New challenges for reseach.

2013

Intensification of agriculture since 1950 has globally led to the decline of grain legume crops, which currently represent less than 3 % of arable crops in France and Europe. Nevertheless, legumes have several major assets (i) as plant proteins for animal feed and human food and (ii) as plants fixing atmospheric N2 and thereby saving nitrogen inputs in cropping systems, and (iii) as diversification crops. The analysis of forage and grain legume producing systems in France showed that the dominant system results in a lock-in of the different factors limiting legume insertion into the current systems. But legumes could have a major role to play in the agroecological transition towards more su…

A life time in exile : Finnish war children in Sweden after the war : an interview study with a psychological and psychodynamic approach

2018

This study is based upon in-depth interviews with ten Finnish war children who were evacuated to Sweden during the Second World War (1939 -1944) and who did not return permanently to Finland after the war. This interpretative and qualitative interview study of war children seems to be the only one of its kind. The interviews were carried out in 2007 in Stockholm. At the time of the evacuation nine of the children were between two and five years of age and one was seven years old. At the time of the interviews they were approaching their seventieth birthday. The interviewees were asked to tell about their life. The method for this study was an application of Grounded Theory and Adult Attachm…

Positioning the principles of precision medicine in care pathways for allergic rhinitis and chronic rhinosinusitis – A EUFOREA-ARIA-EPOS-AIRWAYS IC…

2017

Precision medicine (PM) is increasingly recognized as the way forward for optimizing patient care. Introduced in the field of oncology, it is now considered of major interest in other medical domains like allergy and chronic airway diseases, which face an urgent need to improve the level of disease control, enhance patient satisfaction and increase effectiveness of preventive interventions. The combination of personalized care, prediction of treatment success, prevention of disease and patient participation in the elaboration of the treatment plan is expected to substantially improve the therapeutic approach for individuals suffering from chronic disabling conditions. Given the emerging dat…

Practitioners’ Perceptions of Co-Product Allocation Methods in Biorefinery Development—A Case Study of the Austrian Pulp and Paper Indust…

2022

The utilization of coproducts is a strategy that can be applied to increase the economic and environmental performance of industrial processes and thus reach an objective targeted in several environmental policies. In multi-output production processes, allocation needs to be performed to assess the products’ environmental and economic performance. It is crucial to choose an adequate allocation method, because this choice has been shown to strongly influence overall outcomes. Consequently, rash choices can lead to poor decision-making. Various ways to apply and combine allocation methods can be found in the academic literature, but it is often difficult to find sufficient guidance on how to …

Plasticity in the trophic niche of an invasive ant explains establishment success and long‐term coexistence

2021

Invasive species are one of the main threats to biodiversity worldwide and the processes enabling their establishment and persistence remain poorly understood. In generalist consumers, plasticity in diet and trophic niche may play a crucial role in invasion success. There is growing evidence that invasive ants, in particular, occupy lower trophic levels in their introduced range compared to the native one, but evidences remain fragmented. We conducted stable isotope analysis at five locations distributed on two continents to infer the trophic position of the invasive ant Formica paralugubris in the native and introduced part of the range. This species forms large colonies and can be a vorac…

An update of the known distribution and status of Cherax spp. in Italy (Crustacea, Parastacidae)

2022

To date, only two Cherax species have been reported to occur in Italy, i.e., C. destructor Clark, 1936 and C. quadricarinatus (von Martens, 1868), both in the wild and in aquaculture farms. Therefore, we aimed to update their current status and distribution in Italian mainland and Sicily. In addition, we investigated the origin of their known populations, and their possible routes of invasion. In order to genetically characterize the Cherax populations occurring in Italian inland waters and aquaculture facilities, the barcode region of the mtDNA gene cytochrome oxidase subunit I was sequenced in the available specimens originating from an aquaculture facility and a museum collection. The sa…

Performing arts and mediation technology in the period of lockdown

2021

Advancements in digital technologies have become novel ways to enrich communication, expression, and transmission of arts knowledge. Technology is increasingly implemented in the performance space, as a source of inspiration for artists. Especially in this period of lockdown, mediation technology has turned out to be an essential tool for different aspects of social life, as in performing arts. With venues, schools and artistic activities closed, performers, students and spectators have been obliged to keep connecting in remote conditions. This article wants to retrace the aesthetic impact of mediation technology in performing arts during this period of lockdown by focusing on the aspects t…

The goal is to illustrate the potentialities as well as the challenges of the arttechnology encounter by underlining the transformation of the interaction with and perception of the performance space in remote conditions and in distance learning. The implementation of digital technologies is contributing to the evolution of the performing arts sector by facilitating futuristic approaches. 402 412mediation technology has turned out to be an essential tool for different aspects of social lifeas in performing arts.
