2020

The Nineteenth-Century rediscovery of the Oratory of S. Giorgio offers the opportunity to question the conservation methods, historical analysis and creative reception of fourteenth-century painting in this crucial period for the establishment of art history as a scientific discipline. This essay reconstructs the historical circumstances of the discovery of Altichiero’s frescoes and the consequent discussions among connoisseurs concerning the autography and the cultural value of these paintings. The protagonists of this scholarly discussion – the German art historian Ernst Förster (1800-1885) and his Italian colleague Pietro Selvatico Estense (1803- 1880) – see the Paduan fresco cycle as a …

Viaggi e viaggiatori a Padova

2017

In the sixteen century Poland was well known in Italy, especially in the Republic of Venice and in its University in Padua. Padua was the theater of two rides: the Polish queen Bona Sforza (1556) and the Polish king Henry III de Valois (1574) had a great impact on getting Polish culture and history in Veneto, and still now the oral tradition of the legend about the crested hen from Poland is a symbol of culinary culture and the most well-known Polish 'traveler’.

Il satiro come maestro di moralità. Una stravagante invenzione di Jan Kochanowski

2016

Three visits of Jan Kochanowski in Padua, at that time under the rule of the Republic of Venice which influenced both cultural and intellectual life in the city, had a considerable impact on his literary output. This essay proves that there was a significant mark of the Serenissima entering into the theatrical life, related to one of his earliest texts, Satyr albo Dziki Mąz (The Satyr or the wild Man), dedicated to the king Sigismund II August and published presumably for the first time in 1563. An unsolved issue concerns not only the idea of making the Satyr a morality teacher, but also the question whether it was just a text meant for reading or for being performed in a theatrical form.

This monograph investigates Pietro Selvatico Estense's (1803-1880) art writings and his commitment to the Italian Nineteenth-Century system of the Arts. Among the priorities of this study are Selvatico's contacts to the german-speaking countries (Bavaria, Prussia, Saxony and Austria) and to France, his …

Artykuł przedstawia tzw. metrykę nacji polskiej na Uniwersytecie Padewskim, przechowywaną w Archiwum Historycznym Uniwersytetu Padewskiego. Dwa tomy wpisów przedstawicieli Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów, studiujących lub tylko przebywających w Padwie pomiędzy rokiem 1592 a 1745, określano dawniej m. in. jako Album, Codicilli, Liber Nationis, Liber Congregationis s. Stanislai.

2021

The article deals with the first burial in the tomb crypt built under the altar of the natio polona in the Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua. Stanisław Miński, a Polish state dignitary and diplomat who was passing through Padua on his way from Naples, was the one buried here. The tombstone, removed only in the first half of the 20th century, contained information about the laying of Miński’s body to rest in the place where church services associated with Poland and Poles were performed. For over three centuries, the tomb attracted the attention of pilgrims from Poland coming to Padua, reminding them not only of the outstanding Polish diplomat, but also of the natio polona, which, in the 16th…

Z Polin do Grodu Antenora. Wyprawy żydowskich studentów po nauki do Padwy w czasach I Rzeczypospolitej

2022
