"…a počínal tušit, že s obrazy to tady nebude jednoduché." Ekfrastyczność (w) powieści "Cesta do pekel" Václava Vokolka

2019

The article analyses the novel Cesta do pekel written by Václav Vokolek – the Czech prose writer, poet and painter – through the usage of the intersemiotic translation strategies. The plot of the text can be characterized as the contamination of the physically plausible historic world (the construction of the railway in the middle of the 19th century) with the implausible one (the infernal story) according to Lubomír Doležel’s typology. Demonstrating the changes in the arts (the clash of romanticism with realism), the novelist sensitizes the reader to the drastic introversion into nature, as exemplifi ed by the urbanization processes in the north of the Czech Republic. At the same time, the…

Identification by GC-FID and GC-MS of amino acids, fatty and bile acids in binding media used in works of art.

2001

GC-FID was used as single methodology for the identification and differentiation of proteins, lipids and ox bile from binders used in artistic paintings. The samples were hydrolyzed by HCl. Subsequently, the simultaneous formation of volatile derivatives of the amino, fatty and bile acids with ethyl chloroformate was performed quickly and safely in an aqueous medium. The derivatives were separated by capillary GC and characterized by GC-MS. The ageing of drying oils was studied, identifying pelargonic acid among other degradation products. Proteinaceous and lipoid binding media were characterized by means of the quotients between the areas of the peaks for each amino or fatty acid with resp…

Preliminary Study of the Mural Paintings of Sotterra Church in Paola (Cosenza, Italy)

2022

A multi-analytical approach was employed to study wall paintings located in the Sotterra church at Paola, in the province of Cosenza, Italy. The site is an underground church (hence the name of Sotterra, which means “under the earth”) rediscovered in the second half of the 19th century, during the building works of the Madonna del Carmine church on the same area. This underground church preserves valuable mural paintings having different styles. The construction’s dating and overlapped modifications made until the site was abandoned is also debated. A wall painting, depicting “The Virgin” as part of the “Annunciation and the Archangel Gabriel” prese…

2021

During the period between 1370 and 1520, Valencia experimented a profound renovation of the architectural language echoed in the contemporaneous pictorial representations, through the description of the spaces and characteristic elements of an architectonic vocabulary. In that sense, the pictorial representation constitutes a source of documental information that provides an immediate image of the material environment at that time. It participates in the context and conception of the epoch it was painted, becoming an exceptional testimony of the past it illustrates. In the pictorial representations, the architecture and landscape are essential components in the scene composition, for they e…

El Greco - teologia ukryta w geście

2019
