Pushing Through or Slacking Off? Heterogeneity in the Reaction to Rank Feedback

This paper studies heterogeneity in the reaction to rank feedback. In a laboratory experiment, individuals take part in a series of dynamic real-effort contests with intermediate feedback. To solve the identification problem in estimating the causal effect of rank feedback on subsequent effort provision we implement a random multiplier in the first round of each contest. The realization of this multiplier then serves as a valid instrument for rank feedback. This paper focuses on the structure identification problem for a class of networked systems, where the interaction among components or agents is described through logical maps. The parameter identification in the Stokes system with threshold slip boundary conditions

The paper is devoted to an identification of the slip bound function g in the Stokes system with threshold slip boundary conditions assuming that g depends on the tangential velocity 𝑢𝜏 . To this end the optimal control approach is used. To remove its nonsmoothness we use a regularized form of the slip conditions in the state problem. The mutual relation between solutions to the original optimization problem and the problems with regularized states is analyzed. The paper is completed by numerical experiments. peerReviewed

On the numerical solution of the distributed parameter identification problem

A new error estimate is derived for the numerical identification of a distributed parameter a(x) in a two point boundary value problem, for the case that the finite element method and the fit-to-data output-least-squares technique are used for the identifications. With a special weighted norm, we get a pointwise estimate. Prom the error estimate and also from the numerical tests, we find that if we decrease the mesh size, the maximum error between the identified parameter and the true parameter will increase. In order to improve the accuracy, higher order finite element spaces should be used in the approximations.

On Solving the Problem of Identifying Unreliable Sensors Without a Knowledge of the Ground Truth: The Case of Stochastic Environments.

The purpose of this paper is to propose a solution to an extremely pertinent problem, namely, that of identifying unreliable sensors (in a domain of reliable and unreliable ones) without any knowledge of the ground truth. This fascinating paradox can be formulated in simple terms as trying to identify stochastic liars without any additional information about the truth. Though apparently impossible, we will show that it is feasible to solve the problem, a claim that is counterintuitive in and of itself. Vibration-based identification of mechanical properties of orthotropic arbitrarily shaped plates: Numerical and experimental assessment

Abstract An innovative procedure is introduced for the identification of the mechanical parameters of orthotropic plates of arbitrary shape, under various boundary conditions, based on vibration data. The method employs a combination of a convenient Rayleigh-Ritz approach and Particle-Swarm Optimization to estimate elastic constants of the orthotropic material in a straightforward manner, without requiring computationally demanding iterative Finite Element analyses. Dynamical attractors of memristors and their networks

It is shown that the time-averaged dynamics of memristors and their networks periodically driven by alternating-polarity pulses may converge to fixed-point attractors. Starting with a general memristive system model, we derive basic equations describing the fixed-point attractors and investigate attractors in the dynamics of ideal, threshold-type and second-order memristors, and memristive networks. Wind Shear On-Line Identification for Unmanned Aerial Systems

An algorithm to perform the on line identification of the wind shear components suitable for the UAS characteristics has been implemented. The mathematical model of aircraft and wind shear in the augmented state space has been built without any restrictive assumption on the dynamic of wind shear.
