Raman-assisted parametric frequency conversion in a normally dispersive single-mode fiber

International audience; We demonstrate efficient frequency conversion with large frequency shifts of an anti-Stokes signal into a parametrically seeded Stokes idler, which is generated by a highly mismatched three-wave mixing interaction and subsequent Raman amplification in a normally dispersive single-mode fiber. The use of non-phase-matched waves in Raman-assisted three-wave mixing interactions overcomes the strict spectral limitations imposed by phase-matching conditions in parametric frequency-conversion processes.

Experimental dynamic analysis of elastic-plastic shear frames with secondary structures

Various experimental models are developed to study the influence of lightweight secondary structures on the dynamic response of elastic and elastic-plastic shear frames. Small-scale two-story model frames, with an elastic single-degree-of-freedom secondary structure attached, are considered for sinusoidal and random in-plane support excitation. Both elastic and elastic-plastic responses are recorded by varying the material properties of the columns of a distinguished floor. Parametric conversion in micrometer and sub-micrometer structured ferroelectric crystals by surface poling

We report on recent technological improvements concerning nonlinear patterning of lithium niobate and lithium tantalate in the micrometer and submicrometer scales using surface periodic poling for ferroelectric domain inversion. The fabricated samples were employed for frequency doubling via quasiphase-matching both in bulk and guided wave geometries, including forward and backward configurations and wavelength conversion in bands C and L. We also investigated short-period quasiperiodic samples with randomly distributed mark-to-space ratios.

Broadband Tuning of Four-Wave Mixing Bands Using Photonic Crystal Fibers

We present an experimental study of the shift with temperature of widely-spaced FWM parametric bands generated in an ethanol-inflltrated photonic crystal fiber. We report broadband tuning of 175 nm and over 500 nm for the signal and idler bands, respectively, achieved through the thermo-optic effect. Numerical calculations were carried out and show good agreement with experimental data.

Comprehensive formulation of temperature-dependent dispersion of optical materials: illustration with case of temperature tuning of a mid-IR HgGa_2S_…

The temperature dependence of refractive indices of optical materials is characterized in this work by what we call their normalized thermo-optic coefficients. These are determined experimentally through interferometric measurements of thermal expansion and of changes in optical thickness at a few laser wavelengths as function of temperature. A suitable vectorial formalism applied to these data allows predicting the thermal evolution of the refractive index all over the useful range of transparency. Roentgenographic in vitro investigation of frequency and location of curvatures in human maxillary premolars.

The aim of this study was to determine the location of the root canal curvature and measure the distance from the CEJ to the first curvature using in vitro methods. Extracted maxillary premolars (n = 358) were fixed and digitally radiographed using the parallel technique. Excluded from further analysis were teeth with root caries, artificial crowns, extensive fillings, or endodontic treatments. The results were descriptively analyzed and the cumulative frequencies were calculated. Parametric Frequency Conversion of Short Optical Pulses Controlled by a CW Background

International audience; We predict that parametric sum-frequency generation of an ultra-short pulse may result from the mixing of an ultra-short optical pulse with a quasi-continuous wave control. We analytically show that the intensity, time duration and group velocity of the generated idler pulse may be controlled in a stable manner by adjusting the intensity level of the background pump.

Salkowski curves revisited: A family of curves with constant curvature and non-constant torsion

In the paper [Salkowski, E., 1909. Zur Transformation von Raumkurven, Mathematische Annalen 66 (4), 517-557] published one century ago, a family of curves with constant curvature but non-constant torsion was defined. We characterize them as space curves with constant curvature and whose normal vector makes a constant angle with a fixed line. The relation between these curves and rational curves with double Pythagorean hodograph is studied. A method to construct closed curves, including knotted curves, of constant curvature and continuous torsion using pieces of Salkowski curves is outlined.
