Vecāku iesaiste jaunu skolēnu/audzēkņu valodas apguvē

2017

Conflict between truthfulness and tact in parent–teacher conferences

2009

The purpose of this article is to explore how teachers’ and parents’ conversations are affected by their notions about truthfulness. The study is qualitative and draws on data from observations of parent–teacher conferences about pupils with special needs in a Norwegian lower secondary school and from interviews with participants. The findings show that teachers’ and parents’ conversations are constrained by positive talk, decency and silence and, especially when the pupil participates, they choose a careful point of view, gloss over it, and talk about what is OK and not unpleasant. Furthermore, teachers act communicatively in a strategic way. It is concluded that teachers and parents often…

Rural Children’s Perceptions of Parental Involvement in Their Education in Pakistan

2022

Drawing from focus group discussions, this study reports 40 school-aged children’s (12–14 years, boys and girls) perceptions of parental involvement in the context of a developing country with a collectivist culture. The results indicate that despite parental interference, adherence to local customs, poverty, and illiteracy, children felt encouraged by their parents through strategies that reinforced their motivation to continue their education. Extended families’ educated members can also compensate for parents being unable to support their children in learning. The study highlights the role of the socio-cultural context in understanding parental involvement. peerReviewed

How do parents help? : Parental involvement in children s learning of German as an A2-language

2010

Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena oli saada selville kuinka kuudesluokkalaisten saksanopiskelijoiden vanhemmat auttavat lapsiaan saksan kotitehtävien teossa ja kokeisiin lukemisessa. Tutkimuksessa pohdittiin, kenen aloitteesta lapsia autetaan, mitä mieltä lapset ovat vanhempiensa avusta ja mistä syistä vanhemmat mahdollisesti eivät auta lapsiaan. Vanhempien lastensa koulunkäyntiin osallistumisen positiiviset vaikutukset on jo todistettu monessa tieteellisessä tutkimuksessa, mutta vanhempien osallistumista A-saksan lukijoiden opiskeluun ei juuri ole tutkittu. Tutkimuksessa pyrittiin myös selvittämään voisiko vanhempien aktiivisuus/epäaktiivisuus vaikuttaa siihen, että saksaa opiskelevien koulu…

Can fathers' leave take-up dismantle gendered parental responsibilities? Evidence from Finland

2022

Objective: This article reports on the associations of fathers' leave take-up with parents' care responsibilities when their child is around four years old. Background: In families with small children women continue to do more parental care work than men. Several studies, however, have suggested that fathers who take up parental leave also take more responsibility for childcare. Method: We applied logistic regression analysis to Finnish survey data collected in 2019 from the mothers and fathers of four-year-old children to find out whether father’s take-up and length of leave is related to fathers taking equal or more responsibility for different dimensions of parental responsibilities, inc…

Fathers’ Leave Take-Up in Finland : Motivations and Barriers in a Complex Nordic Leave Scheme

2019

Despite being the first country in the world to introduce paternity leave in 1978, Finland’s current national leave scheme is complex with regard to incentivizing fathers’ take-up. Taking the unique Finnish leave scheme as a case example, this article examines fathers’ motivations and barriers to leave. Although research on fathers’ take-up of leave in divergent leave policy contexts has increased dramatically, fathers’ motivations and barriers to leave have remained underresearched. The article reports on a survey sample of 852 Finnish fathers of infants who were taking paternity, parental, and other forms of leave, drawn from the Population Register Center. Results show that less than 20%…

UNA RIFLESSIONE PEDAGOGICA SULLE COMPETENZE EDUCATIVE GENITORIALI TRA AFFETTIVITÀ ED ETICA

2020

The paper deals with notion of parental competence by exploring its pedagogical and educational meanings. In the light of the contemporary “cult of emotion”, not only emotional but also ethical aspects are highlighted. An inquiry into the educational need for recognition is developed, thus a reflection on the “maternal” and “paternal”, not in terms of opposing functions but in terms of educational responsibility and reciprocity. Thanks to this analysis, co-parenting and coresponsibility will emerge as key categories of contemporary family pedagogy, also in the perspective of a wider educational community.
