THE EFFECTS OF PEOPLES’ HEIGHT AND RELATIVE HEIGHT ON WELL-BEING

Using a rich Italian survey, we investigate the effect of height on individual happiness. From our analysis it emerges that a large part of the effect of height on well-being is driven by a positive correlation between height and economic and health conditions. However, for young males the effect of height on happiness persists even after controlling for these variables, implying that height may produce some psycho-social direct effects on well-being. Consistent with this hypothesis, we find that males care not only about their own height but also about the height of people in their reference group. Radar-rain gauges intercomparison for the estimation of high resolution rainfall.

An accurate rainfall estimation is essential for many applications like precision viticulture. Rainfall is most of the time estimated by two methods:radar and rain gauges. High resolution rain gauges network Hydravitis was installed in 2014. Data coming from radar,composite product and the network was extracted for the 2014 3 to 4 November event. Data from the network were kriged tocompare with the other products. Results show that PANTHERE radar image well reproduces the spatial variability ofrainfall but underestimates rainfall amounts over a 4 mm/h intensité. Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa tutkitaan aviopuolisoiden välisiä surmia Suomessa 1850-luvulla. Työssä tutkitaan puolisoiden välisiä vakavia konfliktitilanteita, jotka kärjistyivät väkivaltaisiksi kuolemiksi, sekä suunniteltuja murhia, joissa saattoi olla mukana myös parisuhteen ulkopuolisia henkilöitä. Aihetta tutkitaan Turun, Vaasan ja Viipurin hovioikeuden päätöstaltioista. Aineisto mahdollistaa koko Suomen kattavan puolisonsurmien tarkastelun. Tutkimusmenetelmäksi on valittu temaattinen sisällönanalyysi, jonka avulla aineisto on jäsennelty ja tutkimustulokset esitelty. Sen avulla selvitetään henkirikostapausten yleispiirteitä. The paper focuses on the analysis of ‘innovative’ technologies for low-cost survey: downstream test metrology and precise coding methodology, which could be of great support in the documen- tation, virtualization and dissemination of the sculptural heritage. The transposition of the museum works in 3D allows the return of models that can be used by remote –for studies, measurements, restorations, etc.–, no needing a physical contact with the piece, so in a non-invasive way. The virtual museum also offers the pos- sibility to organize exhibitions accessible to a wider audience.
Sociālās salīdzināšanas un iejūtības pret sevi saistības

Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot kādas saistības pastāv starp iejūtību pret sevi un tendenci salīdzināties, kā arī starp iejūtību pret sevi un to, kā indivīds sevi novērtē salīdzinājumā ar citiem. Pētījumā piedalījās 106 respondenti – 16 vīrieši un 90 sievietes (vidējais vecums – 34,25 gadi). Tika izmantotas trīs aptaujas – Aiovas-Nīderlandes salīdzināšanas tendences skala, Sociālās salīdzināšanas skala un Iejūtības pret sevi skala. Pētījuma rezultāti atklāj, ka starp iejūtību pret sevi un tendenci salīdzināties pastāv statistiski nozīmīga negatīva sakarība, bet starp iejūtību pret sevi un sevis pozitīvāku novērtējumu salīdzinājumā ar citiem – statistiski nozīmīga pozitīva sakarība. Tutkimuksen tehtävänä on selvittää, miksi äitiys siirtyy myöhemmälle iälle ja kuinka yli 35-vuotiaat ensisynnyttäjät kokevat kypsän äitiyden. Tutkimusaineistona on käytetty naistenlehtien ja perhelehtien haastatteluja vuosilta 2000–2006. Tutkimusongelman ollessa kaksiosainen, myös analyysissä on käytetty kahta menetelmää. Ensin tutkimuksessa etsitään vastausta, miksi äitiys siirtyy myöhemmälle iälle. Tässä osassa analyysimenetelmänä on käytetty tyypittelyä.
