Extensions of the Noncommutative Integration

In this paper we will continue the analysis undertaken in Bagarello et al. (Rend Circ Mat Palermo (2) 55:21–28, 2006), Bongiorno et al. (Rocky Mt J Math 40(6):1745–1777, 2010), Triolo (Rend Circ Mat Palermo (2) 60(3):409–416, 2011) on the general problem of extending the noncommutative integration in a *-algebra of measurable operators. Uniqueness of positive solutions to some nonlinear Neumann problems

Abstract Using the moving plane method, we obtain a Liouville type theorem for nonnegative solutions of the Neumann problem { div ( y a ∇ u ( x , y ) ) = 0 , x ∈ R n , y > 0 , lim y → 0 + ⁡ y a u y ( x , y ) = − f ( u ( x , 0 ) ) , x ∈ R n , under general nonlinearity assumptions on the function f : R → R for any constant a ∈ ( − 1 , 1 ) .

Quasi *-algebras of measurable operators

Non-commutative $L^p$-spaces are shown to constitute examples of a class of Banach quasi *-algebras called CQ*-algebras. For $p\geq 2$ they are also proved to possess a {\em sufficient} family of bounded positive sesquilinear forms satisfying certain invariance properties. CQ *-algebras of measurable operators over a finite von Neumann algebra are also constructed and it is proven that any abstract CQ*-algebra $(\X,\Ao)$ possessing a sufficient family of bounded positive tracial sesquilinear forms can be represented as a CQ*-algebra of this type.

Superconductive and insulating inclusions for linear and non-linear conductivity equations

We detect an inclusion with infinite conductivity from boundary measurements represented by the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for the conductivity equation. We use both the enclosure method and the probe method. We use the enclosure method to prove partial results when the underlying equation is the quasilinear $p$-Laplace equation. Further, we rigorously treat the forward problem for the partial differential equation $\operatorname{div}(\sigma\lvert\nabla u\rvert^{p-2}\nabla u)=0$ where the measurable conductivity $\sigma\colon\Omega\to[0,\infty]$ is zero or infinity in large sets and $1<p<\infty$.

Biweights on Partial *-Algebras

This chapter is devoted to the systematic investigation of biweights on partial *-algebras. These are a generalization of invariant positive sesquilinear forms that still allows a Gel’fand—Naĭmark—Segal (GNS) construction of representations. In Section 9.1, we apply this GNS construction for biweights and we obtain *-representations and cyclic vector representations of partial *-algebras, and we give some examples of biweights. An overview on bounded elements in some partial algebraic structures

The notion of bounded element is fundamental in the framework of the spectral theory. Before implanting a spectral theory in some algebraic or topological structure it is needed to establish which are its bounded elements. In this paper, we want to give an overview on bounded elements of some particular algebraic and topological structures, summarizing our most recent results on this matter.

On the numerical evaluation of algebro-geometric solutions to integrable equations

Physically meaningful periodic solutions to certain integrable partial differential equations are given in terms of multi-dimensional theta functions associated to real Riemann surfaces. Typical analytical problems in the numerical evaluation of these solutions are studied. In the case of hyperelliptic surfaces efficient algorithms exist even for almost degenerate surfaces. This allows the numerical study of solitonic limits. For general real Riemann surfaces, the choice of a homology basis adapted to the anti-holomorphic involution is important for a convenient formulation of the solutions and smoothness conditions. Anomalous partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms I: dynamically coherent examples

2016

We build an example of a non-transitive, dynamically coherent partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism $f$ on a closed $3$-manifold with exponential growth in its fundamental group such that $f^n$ is not isotopic to the identity for all $n\neq 0$. This example contradicts a conjecture in \cite{HHU}. The main idea is to consider a well-understood time-$t$ map of a non-transitive Anosov flow and then carefully compose with a Dehn twist.

Bounded elements in certain topological partial *-algebras

We continue our study of topological partial *algebras, focusing our attention to the interplay between the various partial multiplications. The special case of partial *-algebras of operators is examined first, in particular the link between the strong and the weak multiplications, on one hand, and invariant positive sesquilinear (ips) forms, on the other. Then the analysis is extended to abstract topological partial *algebras, emphasizing the crucial role played by appropriate bounded elements, called $\M$-bounded. Finally, some remarks are made concerning representations in terms of the so-called partial GC*-algebras of operators.
