Selective photocatalytic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural to 2,5-furandicarboxyaldehyde in aqueous suspension of g-C3N4

2017

Graphitic carbon nitride assisted partial photocatalytic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural (HMF) in aqueous medium was investigated. Different carbon nitride precursors were considered, being melamine the one yielding the most efficient photocatalyst. The obtained 30% selectivity of HMF oxidation to 2,5-furandicarboxaldehyde (FDC) is higher than those reported up to now. A further thermal exfoliation of the g-C3N4 samples showed under artificial light irradiation both an enhanced photocatalytic activity in conversion of HMF, and selectivity (ca. 42–45%) to FDC. The performance of the catalysts increased when the experiments were carried out under real outdoor illumination, reaching 50…

Selective photocatalytic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural in aqueous suspension of polymeric carbon nitride and its adduct with H2O2 in a sola…

2018

Abstract This work reports a study on the reactivity of polymeric carbon nitride (PCN) and PCN-H2O2 adduct samples for sunlight photocatalytic selective oxidation reactions. The characterization of these materials was reported in a previous paper where the reactivity towards the partial oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) was studied by using two different laboratory scale photoreactors; one irradiated by UV lamps and the other one by natural sunlight. In the present study it has been confirmed the effectiveness of these C3N4 based materials for the selective partial oxidation of HMF to FDC (2,5-furandicarboxaldehyde) in aqueous medium in a pilot plant photoreactor irradiated by natu…

Intracoronary application of C1 esterase inhibitor improves cardiac function and reduces myocardial necrosis in an experimental model of ischemia and…

1997

Background Myocardial injury from ischemia can be aggravated by reperfusion of the jeopardized area. The precise underlying mechanisms have not been clearly defined, but proinflammatory events, including complement activation, leukocyte adhesion, and infiltration and release of diverse mediators, probably play important roles. The present study addresses the possibility of reducing reperfusion damage by the application of C1 esterase inhibitor (C1-INH). Methods and Results Cardioprotection by C1-INH 20 IU/kg IC was examined in a pig model with 60 minutes of coronary occlusion, followed by 120 minutes of reperfusion. C1-INH was administered during the first 5 minutes of coronary reperfusion…

Differential contribution of dead space ventilation and low arterial pCO2 to exercise hyperpnea in patients with chronic heart failure secondary to i…

2003

In chronic heart failure (CHF), the abnormally large ventilatory response to exercise (VE/VCO(2) slope) has 2 conceptual elements: the requirement of restraining arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO(2)) from increasing (because of an increased ratio between increased physiologic dead space and tidal volume [VD/VT]) and the depression of arterial pCO(2) by further increased ventilation, which necessarily implies an important non-carbon dioxide stimulus to ventilation. We aimed to assess the contribution of these 2 factors in determining the elevated VE/VCO(2) slope in CHF. Thirty patients with CHF underwent cardiopulmonary exercise testing (age 65 +/- 11 years, left ventricular e…

"Partial oxidation of methane and methanol on FeOx-, MoOx- and FeMoOx -SiO2 catalysts prepared by sol-gel method: a comparative study"

2020

[EN] FeOx-, MoOx and FeMoOx-SiO2 materials prepared by a sol-gel procedure have been evaluated as catalysts for the partial oxidation of methane and methanol. The effect of decreasing the pH of the synthesis gel on the chemical nature of FeOx and MoOx species has been investigated. Characterization results show that low pH improves the dispersion of metal oxide species present in SiO2 matrix. For FeOx/SiO2 materials, the presence of dispersed FeOx species (rather than bulk Fe2O3) improves the selectivity to formaldehyde in the partial oxidation of methane and methanol. For FeMoOx/SiOx catalysts, dispersed species favor the selectivity to formaldehyde only for methane oxidation. In contrast,…

On Approximation of Entropy Solutions for One System of Nonlinear Hyperbolic Conservation Laws with Impulse Source Terms

2010

We study one class of nonlinear fluid dynamic models with impulse source terms. The model consists of a system of two hyperbolic conservation laws: a nonlinear conservation law for the goods density and a linear evolution equation for the processing rate. We consider the case when influx-rates in the second equation take the form of impulse functions. Using the vanishing viscosity method and the so-called principle of fictitious controls, we show that entropy solutions to the original Cauchy problem can be approximated by optimal solutions of special optimization problems.

A strongly degenerate quasilinear elliptic equation

2005

Abstract We prove existence and uniqueness of entropy solutions for the quasilinear elliptic equation u - div a ( u , Du ) = v , where 0 ⩽ v ∈ L 1 ( R N ) ∩ L ∞ ( R N ) , a ( z , ξ ) = ∇ ξ f ( z , ξ ) , and f is a convex function of ξ with linear growth as ∥ ξ ∥ → ∞ , satisfying other additional assumptions. In particular, this class of equations includes the elliptic problems associated to a relativistic heat equation and a flux limited diffusion equation used in the theory of radiation hydrodynamics, respectively. In a second part of this work, using Crandall–Liggett's iteration scheme, this result will permit us to prove existence and uniqueness of entropy solutions for the corresponding…

Boundary value steady solutions of a class of hydrodynamic models for vehicular traffic flow

2003

This paper deals with the solution of a boundary value problem related to a steady nonuniform description of a class of traffic flow models. The models are obtained by the closure of the mass conservation equation with a phenomenological relation linking the local mass velocity to the local density. The analysis is addressed to define the proper framework toward the identification of the parameter characterizing the model. The last part of the paper develops a critical analysis also addressed to the design of new traffic flow models.

Defining the recurrence relations for orthogonal polynomials we have found an exact solution of a Cauchy problem for an infinite chain of linear differential equations with constant coefficients. These solutions have been found both for homogeneous and an inhomogeneous systems.
