Biopartitioning micellar chromatography to predict skin permeability
2003
Dermal absorption of chemicals is an area of increasing interest to the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, as well as in dermal exposure and risk assessment processes. In this paper the capability of biopartitioning micellar chromatography (BMC) as an in vitro technique to describe compound percutaneous absorption is evaluated. A multivariate study (principal component analysis, partial least squares) is performed in order to evaluate the importance of some physicochemical variables on the skin permeability constant values. From these results, a quantitative retention-activity relationship model for predicting the skin permeability constants that uses the BMC retention data and melting…
1-(2′-Bromobenzyl)-6,7-dihydroxy-N-methyl-tetrahydroisoquinoline and 1,2-Demethyl-nuciferine as Agonists in Human D2 Dopamine Receptors
2020
Certain D2-like dopamine receptor (DR) agonists are useful therapeutically as antiparkinsonian drugs, whereas D2-like DR antagonists or partial agonists are proven effective as antipsychotics. Two ...
Oxygen exchange in the erythrocyte
1969

Connecting Berry's phase and the pumped charge in a Cooper pair pump
2003
The properties of the tunnelling-charging Hamiltonian of a Cooper pair pump are well understood in the regime of weak and intermediate Josephson coupling, i.e. when $E_{\mathrm{J}}\lesssim E_{\mathrm{C}}$. It is also known that Berry's phase is related to the pumped charge induced by the adiabatical variation of the eigenstates. We show explicitly that pumped charge in Cooper pair pump can be understood as a partial derivative of Berry's phase with respect to the phase difference $\phi$ across the array. The phase fluctuations always present in real experiments can also be taken into account, although only approximately. Thus the measurement of the pumped current gives reliable, yet indirec…
Organic solvents vapor pressure and relative humidity effects on the phase transition rate of α and β forms of tegafur.
2011
The objective of this work was to investigate the relative humidity (RH) and solvent vapor pressure effects on the phase transition dynamics between tegafur polymorphic forms that do not form hydrates and solvates. The commercially available α and β modifications of 5-fluoro-1-(tetrahydro-2-furyl)-uracil, known as the antitumor agent tegafur, were used as model materials for this study. While investigating the phase transitions of α and β tegafur under various partial pressures of methanol, n-propanol, n-butanol, and water vapor, it was determined that the phase transition rate increased in the presence of solvent vapors, even though no solvates were formed. By increasing the relative air h…
Transition paths between phases IV, III and II of ammonium nitrate predicted from X-ray powder diffractometer and differential scanning calorimeter d…
1994
Abstract Ammonium nitrate solid phase transition paths between phases IV, III and II were explained and predicted on the basis of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) data by applying partial least-squares regression (PLS) and principal component analysis (PCA). The samples were clustered according to their different transition paths with the PLS and PCA models, and the transition paths were predicted with PLS component clusters. The best PLS clusters were formed by a few first components. Prediction of the transition path with the PLS clusters made a semiquantitative prediction of the transition energy possible. In PCA, principal components 6 and 11, w…
Comment on “Molybdenum sound velocity and shear modulus softening under shock compression”
2015
In this Comment we discuss recent results presented by Nguyen et al. on shock compressed molybdenum up to 438 GPa [Phys. Rev. B 89, 174109 (2014)]. The aim of Nguyen's article is to show that there is no phase transition near 210 GPa. We propose instead an interpretation of their data that this material shows the onset of partial melting along the Hugoniot at $240(20)\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}\mathrm{GPa}$, which is evident from abrupt changes in the pressure dependence of the shear modulus. This interpretation may solve the significant controversy in the melting slopes derived from shock and static experiments.
