Indicators of Errors for Approximate Solutions of Differential Equations

2014

Error indicators play an important role in mesh-adaptive numerical algorithms, which currently dominate in mathematical and numerical modeling of various models in physics, chemistry, biology, economics, and other sciences. Their goal is to present a comparative measure of errors related to different parts of the computational domain, which could suggest a reasonable way of improving the finite dimensional space used to compute the approximate solution. An “ideal” error indicator must possess several properties: efficiency, computability, and universality. In other words, it must correctly reproduce the distribution of errors, be indeed computable, and be applicable to a wide set of approxi…

Trivial S-Matrices, Wigner-Von Neumann Resonances and Positon Solutions of the Integrable Nonlinear Evolution Equations

1996

It is well known that the scattering matrix is different from the unit matrix in the case of 1-dimensional Schrodinger operator with smooth rapidly decreasing nonzero potential. This no more true in the case of the slowly decreasing and oscillating potentials for which the absence of scattering is accompanied by the occurrence of the Wigner-von Neumann resonances embedded in the positive absolutely continuous spectrum. Taken as initial conditions in the KdV like integrable partial differential equations these potentials generate interesting family of explicit solutions. Below we will call them positon or multipositon solutions. The interaction of an arbitrary finite number of positons and s…

Experimental study of $\eta$ meson photoproduction reaction at MAMI

2015

New data for the differential cross sections, polarization observables $T$, $F$, and $E$ in the reaction of $\eta$ photoproduction on proton from the threshold up to a center-of-mass energy of W=1.9 GeV are presented. The data were obtained with the Crystal-Ball/TAPS detector setup at the Glasgow tagged photon facility of the Mainz Microtron MAMI. The polarization measurements were made using a frozen-spin butanol target and circularly polarized photon beam. The results are compared to existing experimental data and different PWA predictions. The data solve a long-standing problem related the angular dependence of older $T$ data close to threshold. The unexpected relative phase motion betwe…

Propagation, Stability and Interactions of Novel Three-Wave Parametric Solitons

2006

International audience; We found a new class of analytic soliton solutions that describe the parametric wave mixing of optical pulses in quadratic nonlinear crystals. We analyze the stability properties, interactions and collisions of these solitons.

Stochastic Analysis of a Nonlocal Fractional Viscoelastic Bar Forced by Gaussian White Noise

2017

Recently, a displacement-based nonlocal bar model has been developed. The model is based on the assumption that nonlocal forces can be modeled as viscoelastic (VE) long-range interactions mutually exerted by nonadjacent bar segments due to their relative motion; the classical local stress resultants are also present in the model. A finite element (FE) formulation with closed-form expressions of the elastic and viscoelastic matrices has also been obtained. Specifically, Caputo's fractional derivative has been used in order to model viscoelastic long-range interaction. The static and quasi-static response has been already investigated. This work investigates the stochastic response of the non…

Nonlinear Evolution Equations, Quasi-Solitons and their Experimental Manifestation

1990

We review the typical experimental facts which characterize quasisolitons in one-dimensional real systems, in connection with their modeling by nonlinear partial differential equations. We consider these nonlinear waves or excitations in two different domains of the real world : the macroworld and the microworld. In the macroworld we examine typical one-dimensional devices : the electrical networks, the Josephson transmission lines and the optical fibers, where the localized waves or pulses can be simply and coherently created, easily observed and manipulated on a macroscopic scale. In the microworld, we consider the magnetic chains and polymers, where the indirect experimental signatures of…

Stationary semiconductor equations

1996

The behaviour of a semiconductor device is usually modelled by three coupled nonlinear partial differential equations of elliptic type. Such a system for the transport of mobile charge carriers was first introduced by Van Roosbroeck [Van Roosbroeck] in 1950. Nowadays there are many models which differ in their choice of unknowns, scales, various types of nonlinearities etc. (see, e.g., [Brezzi], [Groger], [Markowich], [Markowich, Ringhofer, Schmeiser], [Mock, 1972], [Polak, den Heijer, Schilders, Markowich], [Pospisek], [Pospisek, Segeth, Silhan], [Selberherr], [Sze], [Zlamal, 1986]).

Partial wave analysis ofJ/ψ→γηη

2013

Based on a sample of 2.25 x 10(8) J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, a full partial wave analysis on J/psi -> gamma eta eta was performed using the relativistic covariant tensor amplitude method. The results show that the dominant 0(++) and 2(++) components are from the f(0)(1710), f(0)(2100), f(0)(1500), f(2)'(1525), f(2)(1810) and f(2)(2340). The resonance parameters and branching fractions are also presented.

Antiproton-proton annihilation at rest into KKπ0π0

1997

Abstract The annihilation channel p p →K + K − π 0 in liquid hydrogen at rest has been studied with the Crystal Barrel detector at LEAR. The measured branching ratio is: BR ( p p → K + K − π 0 )=(2.37±0.15)×10 −3 . A partial wave analysis shows that this reaction is dominated by the π (K K ) S , K K ∗ (892) and π φ (1020) intermediate states. Weak signals are observed for π a 2 (1320), π f 2 (1270), π f 2 ′(1525) and K(Kπ) S . A satisfactory description of the Dalitz plot requires the introduction of π (K K ) P intermediate states with at least one pole.

Partial-wave analysis of proton Compton scattering data below the pion-production threshold

2018

Low-energy Compton scattering off the proton is used for determination of the proton polarizabilities. However, the present empirical determinations rely heavily on the theoretical description(s) of the experimental cross sections in terms of polarizabilities. The most recent determinations are based on either the fixed-$t$ dispersion relations (DR) or chiral perturbation theory in the single-baryon sector ($\chi$PT). The two approaches obtain rather different results for proton polarizabilities, most notably for $\beta_{M1}$ (magnetic dipole polarizability). We attempt to resolve this discrepancy by performing a partial-wave analysis of the world data on proton Compton scattering below thr…
