Fermion masses and the UV cutoff of the minimal realistic SU(5)
2006
We investigate the predictions for fermion masses in the minimal realistic non-supersymmetric SU(5) model with the Standard Model matter content. The possibility to achieve b-\tau unification is studied taking into account all relevant effects. In addition, we show how to establish an upper bound on the ultraviolet cutoff \Lambda of the theory which is compatible with the Yukawa couplings at the grand unified scale and proton decay. We find \Lambda \simeq 10^{17} GeV, to be considered a conservative upper bound on the cutoff. We also provide up-to-date values of all the fermions masses at the electroweak scale.
Experiments with stored exotic nuclei at relativistic energies
2006
Abstract A review and recent progress are presented from experiments on masses and lifetimes of bare and few-electron exotic nuclei at GSI. Relativistic rare isotopes produced via projectile fragmentation and fission were separated in flight by the fragment separator FRS and injected into the storage ring ESR. This worldwide unique experimental method gives access to all fragments with half-lives down to the microsecond range. The great research potential is demonstrated by the discovery of new isotopes along with simultaneous mass and lifetime measurements. Single particle decay measurements and the continuous recording of both stored mother and daughter nuclei open up a new era for nuclea…
Measurement ofBs0Mixing Parameters from the Flavor-Tagged DecayBs0→J/ψϕ
2008
From an analysis of the flavor-tagged decay B-s(0)-> J/psi phi we obtain the width difference between the B-s(0) light and heavy mass eigenstates, Delta Gamma(s)=0.19 +/- 0.07(stat)(-0.01)(+0.02)(syst) ps(-1), and the CP-violating phase, phi(s)=-0.57(-0.30)(+0.24)(stat)(-0.02)(+0.08)(syst). The allowed 90% CL intervals of Delta Gamma(s) and phi(s) are 0.06 <Delta Gamma(s)< 0.30 ps(-1) and -1.20 <phi(s)< 0.06, respectively. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.8 fb(-1) accumulated with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider.
LeptonicCPasymmetries in flavor-changingH0decays
1993
Leptonic flavor-changing ${H}^{0}$ decays with branching ratios of the order of ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}5}$-${10}^{\ensuremath{-}6}$ may constitute an interesting framework when looking for large $\mathrm{CP}$-violating effects. We show that leptonic $\mathrm{CP}$ asymmetries of an intermediate ${H}^{0}$ boson can be fairly large in natural scenarios of the minimal standard model with right-handed neutrinos, at a level that may be probed at future ${H}^{0}$ factories.
Observation of the DecayB±→π±π0, Study ofB±→K±π0, and Search forB0→π0π0
2003
We present results for the branching fractions and charge asymmetries in B+/--->h(+/-)pi(0) (where h(+/-)=pi(+/-),K+/-) and a search for the decay B0-->pi(0)pi(0) using a sample of approximately 88 x 10(6) BBmacr; pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We measure B(B+/--->pi(+/-)pi(0))=(5.5(+1.0)(-0.9)+/-0.6)x10(-6), where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. The B+/--->pi(+/-)pi(0) signal has a significance of 7.7sigma including systematic uncertainties. We simultaneously measure the K+/-pi(0) branching fraction to be B(B+/--->K+/-pi(0))=(12.8(+1.2)(-1.1)+/-1.0)x10(-6). The charge asymmetries are Api(+/-)(pi(0))=-0.0…
Measurements ofB→{π,η,η′}lνlBranching Fractions and Determination of|Vub|with Semileptonically TaggedBMesons
2008
We report measurements of branching fractions for the decays B-->Plnu_{l}, where P are the pseudoscalar charmless mesons pi;{-}, pi;{0}, eta and eta;{'}, based on 348 fb;{-1} of data collected with the BABAR detector, using B0 and B+ mesons found in the recoil of a second B meson decaying as B-->D;{(*)}lnu_{l}. Assuming isospin symmetry, we combine pionic branching fractions to obtain B(B;{0}-->pi;{-}l;{+}nu_{l})=(1.54+/-0.17_{(stat)}+/-0.09_{(syst)})x10;{-4}; we find 3.2sigma evidence of the decay B;{+}-->etal;{+}nu_{l} and measure its branching fraction to be (0.64+/-0.20_{(stat)}+/-0.03_{(syst)})x10;{-4}, and determine B(B;{+}-->eta;{'}l;{+}nu_{l})<0.47x10;{-4} to 90% confidence level. U…

2008
We report the direct observation of the excited L=1 state B_{s2}* in fully reconstructed decays to B+K-. The mass of the B_{s2}* meson is measured to be {5839.6 +- 1.1 (stat.) +- 0.7 (syst.) MeV/c^2, and its production rate relative to the B+ meson is measured to be [1.15 +- 0.23 (stat.) +- 0.13 (syst.)] %.
Limits onD0−D¯0Mixing andCPViolation from the Ratio of Lifetimes for Decay toK−π+,K−K+, andπ−π+
2003
We present a measurement of D0-macro D0 mixing parameters using the ratios of lifetimes extracted from samples of D0 mesons decaying to K-pi(+), K-K+, and pi(-)pi(+). Using 91 fb(-1) of data collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory, we obtain a value Y=[0.8+/-0.4(stat.)(+0.5)(-0.4)(syst.)]%, which, in the limit of CP conservation, corresponds to the mixing parameter y=Delta Gamma/2 Gamma. Using the difference in lifetimes of D0 and macro D0 mesons, we obtain the CP-violation parameter Delta Y=[-0.8+/-0.6(stat.)+/-0.2(syst.)]%.
Measurement of theBs0Lifetime in the Exclusive Decay ChannelBs0→J/ψϕ
2005
Using the exclusive decay B-s(0)-->J/psi(mu(+)mu(-))phi(K+K-), we report the most precise single measurement of the B-s(0) lifetime. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 220 pb(-1) collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider in 2002-2004. We reconstruct 337 signal candidates, from which we extract the B-s(0) lifetime, tau(B-s(0))=1.444(-0.090)(+0.098)(stat)+/-0.020(sys) ps. We also report a measurement for the lifetime of the B-0 meson using the exclusive decay B-0-->J/psi(mu(+)mu(-))K-*0(892)(K(+)pi(-)). We reconstruct 1370 signal candidates, obtaining tau(B-0)=1.473(-0.050)(+0.052)(stat)+/-0.023(sys) ps, and the ratio of lifetimes, …
Performance of the large scale HV-CMOS pixel sensor MuPix8
2019
The Mu3e experiment is searching for the charged lepton flavour violating decay $ ^+\rightarrow e^+ e^- e^+ $, aiming for an ultimate sensitivity of one in $10^{16}$ decays. In an environment of up to $10^9$ muon decays per second the detector needs to provide precise vertex, time and momentum information to suppress accidental and physics background. The detector consists of cylindrical layers of $50\, \text{m}$ thin High Voltage Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (HV-MAPS) placed in a $1\,\text{T}$ magnetic field. The measurement of the trajectories of the decay particles allows for a precise vertex and momentum reconstruction. Additional layers of fast scintillating fibre and tile detec…
