A search for supersymmetry (SUSY) in events with large missing transverse momentum, jets, and at least one hadronically decaying τ lepton, with zero or one additional light lepton (e/μ), has been performed using 4.7 fb[superscript −1] of proton-proton collision data at √s = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No excess above the Standard Model background expectation is observed and a 95 % confidence level visible cross-sectionupper limit for new phenomena is set. In the framework of gauge-mediated SUSY-breaking models, lower limits on the mass scale Λ are set at 54 TeV in the regions where the [bar over τ]1 is the next-to-lightest SUSY particle (tanβ > 20). …
Explanation of theΔ5/2−(1930)as aρΔbound state

We use the $\ensuremath{\rho}\ensuremath{\Delta}$ interaction in the hidden gauge formalism to dynamically generate ${N}^{*}$ and ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{*}$ resonances. We show, through a comparison of the results from this analysis and from a quark model study with data, that the ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{5/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}}(1930)$, ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{3/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}}(1940)$, and ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{1/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}}(1900)$ resonances can be assigned to $\ensuremath{\rho}\ensuremath{\Delta}$ bound states. Novel patterns for vector mesons from the large-Nc limit

We report on a relation between the decay constants of \rho-like J^{PC}=1^{--} vector mesons, which arises solely from the perturbative analysis of the VV, TT and VT correlators at order \alpha_s^0 in the large-N_c limit. We find f_{V}^T/f_{V}=1/\sqrt{2} for highly excited states together with a pattern of alternation in sign. Quite remarkably, recent lattice determinations reported f_{\rho}^T/f_{\rho}=0.72(2), in excellent agreement with our large-N_c result. This seems to suggest a pattern like f_{Vn}^T/f_{Vn}=(-1)^n/\sqrt{2} for the whole (1^{--}) states. International audience; Zinc (Zn) isotope ratios of dental enamel are a promising tracer for dietary reconstruction in archeology, but its use is still in its infancy. A recent study demonstrated a high risk of Zn contamination from nitrile, and latex gloves used during chemical sample preparation. Here we assess the potential impact of the use of such gloves during enamel sampling on the Zn isotope composition of teeth from a population of early Holocene hunter gatherers from Lapa do Santo, Lagoa Santa, Minas Gerais, Brazil. At the earliest times after a heavy-ion collision, the magnetic field created by the spectator nucleons will generate an extremely strong, albeit rapidly decreasing in time, magnetic field. The impact of this magnetic field may have detectable consequences, and is believed to drive anomalous transport effects like the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME). Tracking-by-detection is a widely used paradigm for multi-person tracking but is affected by variations in crowd density, obstacles in the scene, varying illumination, human pose variation, scale changes, etc. We propose an improved tracking-by-detection framework for multi-person tracking where the appearance model is formulated as a template ensemble updated online given detections provided by a pedestrian detector. We introduce a novel algorithm for the efficient detection and tracking of features in spatiotemporal atmospheric data, as well as for the precise localization of the occurring genesis, lysis, merging and splitting events. The algorithm works on data given on a four-dimensional structured grid. Feature selection and clustering are based on adjustable local and global criteria, feature tracking is predominantly based on spatial overlaps of the feature's full volumes. Dynamic Augmented Kalman Filtering for Human Motion Tracking under Occlusion Using Multiple 3D Sensors

In this paper real-time human motion tracking using multiple 3D sensors has been demonstrated in a relatively large industrial robot work cell. The proposed solution extends state-of-the-art by augmenting the constant velocity model and Kalman filter with low-pass filtered velocity states. The presented method is able to handle occlusions by dynamically inclusion in the Kalman filter of only those 3D sensors which provide valid human position data. Human motion tracking was achieved at a frame rate of 20 Hz, with a typical delay of 50 ms to 100 ms and an estimation accuracy of typically 0.10 m to 0.15 m.
An Optical Remote Sensor for Fingerprint Identification using Speckle Pattern

The implementation of a simple, inexpensive optical device for remote fingerprint identification is presented. The sensor is based on temporal tracking of back-reflected secondary speckle patterns generated while illuminating a finger with a laser.

This article presents an image processing application for hand detection and tracking using the 4-connected skeleton of the segmentation mask. The system has been designed to be used with techniques of virtual reality to develop an interactive application for phantom limb pain reduction in therapeutic treatments.
