Jänteen pituus levossa ja isometrisen supistuksen aikana myotonometrillä mitattuna

2011

A minireview on NHE1 inhibitors. A rediscovered hope in oncohematology.

2015

Background: Na+/H+ exchanger-1 (NHE-1) is involved in pH regulation and is up-regulated in different malignancies. Activation of NHE-1 is one way for allowing cells to avoid intracellular acidification and protect them against apoptosis. Inhibitors of NHE-1 are able to decrease intracellular pH and induce apoptosis. Some statins can also act by partial inhibition of NHE-1. This review presents progress in understanding the mechanisms of action of these inhibitors, connections with certain genetic mutations and acquired treatment resistance, as well as new patents on them. Methods: A MEDLINE search for original and review articles using key terms, Na+/H+ exchanger, leukemia, cariporide, and …

IPR-aineistojen mahdollisuuksia, replikointitarpeita ja teknisiä haasteita

2021

The role of parental effect and relatedness on early development of vendace and whitefish in short and long winter

2015

Biopiracy in India: Seed diversity and the scramble for knowledge.

2018

Abstract Background: Biopiracy has usually been discussed mostly in the context of the life sciences, sometimes in dialogue with legal debates or political implications. This paper provides a humanities perspective on contemporary discussions of biopiracy and biopatenting. Hypothesis It proceeds from the hypothesis that contemporary debates and practices of biopiracy can be understood as harking back to colonial legacies, which systematically disregard “native” knowledge or seek to appropriate it for their own purposes. Results Drawing on the work of Vandana Shiva, the present article seeks to redefine the notion of ownership of knowledge from a cultural studies perspective. Exploring the 2…

Fathers’ narratives on support and agency : a case study of fathers in a Finnish child welfare NGO

2017

In Finland, one of the Nordic countries, shared parenting is widely supported through, e.g. family policies and legislation. This is also evident in daily parental practices, as fathers’ share in childcare has increased notably since the late 1980s. Unfortunately, this is not the whole picture of Finnish and Nordic fatherhood: practitioners in child welfare also encounter many fathers with various problems in parenting and life management. In this article, we examine the narratives of fathers who have sought and received support from a Finnish nationwide child welfare NGO. Our research question is: What types of narratives on seeking and receiving support and on their agency do fathers prod…

Laparoscopic treatment of a large pedunculated hemangioma of the liver: a case report

2016

Hepatic hemangiomas are the most common benign tumors of the liver, often asymptomatic and discovered incidentally. A 62-year-old woman was referred to our Institution under the suspicion of having an 8 cm-sized GIST. Due to the atypical features of the lesion on TC scan, a biopsy was performed. We report the case of pedunculated hepatic hemangioma with the aim to discuss the diagnostic approach, the possible causes of misdiagnosis and the opportunity of the laparoscopic approach.

Is cell salvage safe in liver resection? A pilot study

2007

Abstract Study Objective To investigate the quality of cell salvaged (CS) blood in patients undergoing hemihepatectomy (study group) and compare it with CS-blood from aortic surgery (control group). Design Observational study. Setting Operating room in a university hospital. Measurements 6 patients undergoing hemihepatectomy or aortobifemoral bypass with intraoperative blood loss of more than 800 mL. Samples were drawn from the central venous catheter, from the reservoir of a CS recovery system, and from the processed blood in each patient to determine interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, IL-10, tumor necrosis factor (TNF), complement C3a, and the terminal complement complex C5b-9.
