Chromatic and achromatic visual fields in relation to choroidal thickness in patients with high myopia: A pilot study

Purpose. - To analyse the relationship between the choroidal thickness and the visual perception of patients with high myopia but without retinal damage. Methods. - All patients underwent ophthalmic evaluation including a slit lamp examination and dilated ophthalmoscopy, subjective refraction, best corrected visual acuity, axial length, optical coherence tomography, contrast sensitivity function and sensitivity of the visual pathways. Glutamate (Glut), acetylcholine (ACh) and dopamine (DA) were iontophoretically applied on cat claustral neurons. Glut did not affect all the neurons; ACh had both excitatory and inhibitory effects, while DA was prevalently inhibitory. An analysis was made of the time-course of excitatory and inhibitory responses on the basis of the mean firing rate variations during and after ACh and DA release. AbstractFragility fractures of the pelvic ring (FFP) are increasing in frequency and require challenging treatment. A new comprehensive classification considers both fracture morphology and degree of instability. The classification system also provides recommendations for type and invasiveness of treatment. In this article, a literature review of treatment alternatives is presented and compared with our own experiences. Whereas FFP Type I lesions can be treated conservatively, FFP Types III and IV require surgical treatment. Mafias can be considered as criminal organisations that are in the business of producing, promoting, and selling protection. Here, we describe the Palermo Scenario, an agent-based model of protection rackets aimed to deepen our understanding of protection rackets, and help policymakers to evaluate methods for destabilising them. Additionally, since the system is explicitly specified, we can use it to investigate the entire causal pathway from cause to effect: not only from actions to Mafia destabilisation, but also the intermediate actions along the path and actors' internal mental representations among the population.
