Capturing and Indexing Rehearsals: The Design and Usage of a Digital Archive of Performing Arts

2015

International audience; Preserving the cultural heritage of the performing arts raises difficult and sensitive issues, as each performance is unique by nature and the juxtaposition between the performers and the audience cannot be easily recorded. In this paper, we report on an experimental research project to preserve another aspect of the performing arts—the history of their rehearsals. We have specifically designed non-intrusive video recording and on-site documentation techniques to make this process transparent to the creative crew, and have developed a complete workflow to publish the recorded video data and their corresponding meta-data online as Open Data using state-of-the-art audi…

MLP Neural Network Implementation on a SIMD Architecture

2002

An Automatic Road Sign Recognition System {A(RS)2} is aimed at detection and recognition of one or more road signs from realworld color images. The authors have proposed an A(RS)2 able to detect and extract sign regions from real world scenes on the basis of their color and shape features. Classification is then performed on extracted candidate regions using Multi-Layer Perceptron neural networks. Although system performances are good in terms of both sign detection and classification rates, the entire process requires a large computational time, so real-time applications are not allowed. In this paper we present the implementation of the neural layer on the Georgia Institute of Technology …

Implementation of pattern recognition algorithm based on RBF neural network

2002

In this paper, we present implementations of a pattern recognition algorithm which uses a RBF (Radial Basis Function) neural network. Our aim is to elaborate a quite efficient system which realizes real time faces tracking and identity verification in natural video sequences. Hardware implementations have been realized on an embedded system developed by our laboratory. This system is based on a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) TMS320C6x. The optimization of implementations allow us to obtain a processing speed of 4.8 images (240x320 pixels) per second with a correct rate of 95% of faces tracking and identity verification.

Flow resistance law under equilibrium bed-load transport conditions

2018

Abstract The uniform flow resistance equation, in the form due to Manning or Darcy-Weisbach, is often applied to determine the stage-discharge relationship of a river cross-section. The application of this equation, namely the slope-area method, allows to indirectly measure by water level readings the corresponding river discharge. In this paper, a recently deduced flow resistance equation for open channel flow was tested during conditions of equilibrium bed-load transport. First the flow resistance equation was determined by dimensional analysis and applying the condition of incomplete self-similarity for the flow velocity profile. Then the analysis was developed by the following steps: (i…

An Heuristic Approach for the Training Dataset Selection in Fingerprint Classification Tasks

2015

Fingerprint classification is a key issue in automatic fingerprint identification systems. It aims to reduce the item search time within the fingerprint database without affecting the accuracy rate. In this paper an heuristic approach using only the directional image information for the training dataset selection in fingerprint classification tasks is described. The method combines a Fuzzy C-Means clustering method and a Naive Bayes Classifier and it is composed of three modules: the first module builds the working datasets, the second module extracts the training images dataset and, finally, the third module classifies fingerprint images in four classes. Unlike literature approaches using …

A-Codes from Rational Functions over Galois Rings

2006

In this paper, we describe authentication codes via (generalized) Gray images of suitable codes over Galois rings. Exponential sums over these rings help determine--or bound--the parameters of such codes.

Tensor product multiresolution analysis with error control for compact image representation

2002

A class of multiresolution representations based on nonlinear prediction is studied in the multivariate context based on tensor product strategies. In contrast to standard linear wavelet transforms, these representations cannot be thought of as a change of basis, and the error induced by thresholding or quantizing the coefficients requires a different analysis. We propose specific error control algorithms which ensure a prescribed accuracy in various norms when performing such operations on the coefficients. These algorithms are compared with standard thresholding, for synthetic and real images.

Regression Wavelet Analysis for Lossless Coding of Remote-Sensing Data

2016

A novel wavelet-based scheme to increase coefficient independence in hyperspectral images is introduced for lossless coding. The proposed regression wavelet analysis (RWA) uses multivariate regression to exploit the relationships among wavelet-transformed components. It builds on our previous nonlinear schemes that estimate each coefficient from neighbor coefficients. Specifically, RWA performs a pyramidal estimation in the wavelet domain, thus reducing the statistical relations in the residuals and the energy of the representation compared to existing wavelet-based schemes. We propose three regression models to address the issues concerning estimation accuracy, component scalability, and c…

Automated detection and localization system of myocardial infarction in single-beat ECG using Dual-Q TQWT and wavelet packet tensor decomposition.

2019

Abstract Background and objective It is challenging to conduct real-time identification of myocardial infarction (MI) due to artifact corruption and high dimensionality of multi-lead electrocardiogram (ECG). In the present study, we proposed an automated single-beat MI detection and localization system using dual-Q tunable Q-factor wavelet transformation (Dual-Q TQWT) denoising algorithm. Methods After denoising and segmentation of ECG, a fourth-order wavelet tensor (leads × subbands × samples × beats) was constructed based on the discrete wavelet packet transform (DWPT), to represent the features considering the information of inter-beat, intra-beat, inter-frequency, and inter-lead. To red…
