Functional gastrointestinal syndromes are chronic disorders of the abdomen with an absence of organic findings. The aim of this study was to compare the frequency and symptomatology of functional abdominal syndromes in soldiers during an out-of-area mission versus during peacetime at home. We examined 124 soldiers who sought medical care for abdominal symptoms at the German Field Hospital Trogir, Croatia. The control group consisted of 113 soldiers who were referred with abdominal symptoms to the Central Hospital of German Armed Forces Koblenz, Germany. These reports have not, however, included the perspective of cardiorespiratory stress in adolescent and young adults. We examined the present patterns of physical activity among Finnish adolescents and young adults in 1992. We have used a translational Convergent Functional Genomics (CFG) approach to discover genes involved in alcoholism, by gene-level integration of genome-wide association study (GWAS) data from a German alcohol dependence cohort with other genetic and gene expression data, from human and animal model studies, similar to our previous work in bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Event-related potentials (ERP) were used to investigate the electrophysiological correlates of inflectional and derivational morphology. The participants were presented with visual sentences containing critical words in which either inflectional, derivational or both rules (combined violation) of Finnish were violated. Inflectional anomalies violated a number agreement of a noun with a previous auxiliary word. There has been growing interest in recent years in exploring different types of personality constructs and the nature of inter-relationships between personality variables in predicting outcomes in different life domains. The present study explores how personality traits and autonomous goal motivation predict the willingness to invest effort in academic and social life domains. Using a sample of 4133 upper secondary school students in Germany, multilevel regression analyses yielded three main results.
