Multimodal authentication systems represent an emerging trend for information security. These systems could replace conventional mono-modal biometric methods using two or more features for robust biometric authentication tasks. They employ unique combinations of measurable physical characteristics: fingerprint, facial features, iris of the eye, voice print, hand geometry, vein patterns, and so on. The origin of boson peak -- an excess of density of states over Debye's model in glassy solids -- is still under intense debate, among which some theories and experiments suggest that boson peak is related to van-Hove singularity. Here we show that boson peak and van-Hove singularity are well separated identities, by measuring the vibrational density of states of a two-dimensional granular system, where packings are tuned gradually from a crystalline, to polycrystals, and to an amorphous material. Opaline Hydrogels: Polycrystalline Body-Centered-Cubic Bulk Material with an in Situ Variable Lattice Constant

Opaline hydrogels were produced as a polycrystalline bulk material with a body-centered-cubic (bcc) structure by immobilization of self-ordered charged colloidal particles crystallized under equilibrium conditions in a poly(acrylamide) matrix. The final size of a polycrystalline sample is about 7 cm3; a single crystal is up to several millimeters in length. The crystal size is tunable by varying the amount of photoinitiator and the hydrogel volume change due to swelling. The resulting photonic crystals are of high quality, showing high-order reflections. Radiobiological characterization of human tumor cell multilayers after conventional and particle irradiation.

The goal of this study was to establish planar multilayers from human tumor cells (WiDr and SiHa) as a model for irradiation of solid tumors. In addition to using conventional X rays (250 kV) as a reference standard, multilayers were tested for their suitability in cell survival studies with heavy-ion irradiation ((12)C(6+)) in the plateau and the extended Bragg peak with a scanned ion beam. Multilayers of both cell lines showed decreased survival compared to the corresponding monolayers after both X and heavy-ion irradiation. Influence of oblique edge blanking on the online punching quality after stretch bending

The oblique edge punching was proposed to reduce the surrounding sag failure occurred under the large punching force during online punching after stretch bending. The finite element models under three different kinds of punches were stablished and the punching processes were simulated by using the DEFORM-3D software. The peak stress method (PSM) is an engineering, finite element (FE)-oriented method to rapidly estimate the notch stress intensity factors by using the singular linear elastic peak stresses calculated from coarse FE analyses. The average element size adopted to generate the mesh pattern can be chosen arbitrarily within a given range. Originally, the PSM has been calibrated under pure mode I and pure mode II loadings by means of Ansys FE software. Abstract The Ministry of Education is changing how Spanish University Entrance Examination (PAU) will be delivered in 2017. To test the construct, experimental oral interviews with potential candidates of the PAU were done. Purpose of Study: The research observed whether paired interviews favored the delivery and organization of the PAU test and if this type of delivery favors the students’ performance. This Gradient Accumulation Transform (GAT) was first introduced in 1992 by Kierkegaard and recently used by Kaytanli & Valentine.
