Comparison between anterolateral thigh perforator free flaps and pectoralis major pedicled flap for reconstruction in oral cancer patients-A quality …

2013

The aim of this study was to compare the differences between anterolateral thigh perforator free flaps (ALTFF) and pectoralis major myocutaneous flap (PMMF) for reconstruction in oral cancer patients. Method and Patients: who received free flap or PMMF reconstruction after ablation surgeries were eligible for the current study. The patients' demographic data, medical history, and quality of life scores(Medical Outcomes Study-Short Form-36 (MOS SF-36) and the University of Washington Quality of Life (UW-QOL) questionnaires were collected. Results: 81 of 118 questionnaires were returned (68.64%). There was signi.cant differences between two groups in the gender (P<0.005). Patients reconstruct…

Attentional Focus and Grip Width Influences on Bench Press Resistance Training.

2018

This study evaluated the influence of different attentional foci for varied grip widths in the bench press. Eighteen resistance-trained men were familiarized with the procedure and performed a one-repetition maximum (1RM) test during Session 1. In Session 2, they used three different standardized grip widths (100%, 150%, and 200% of biacromial width distance) in random order at 50% of 1RM while also engaged in three different attention focus conditions (external focus on the bench press, internal focus on pectoralis major muscles, and internal focus on triceps brachii muscles). Surface electromyography (EMG) signals were recorded from the triceps brachii and pectoralis major, and peak EMG …

The temnospondyl amphibian Cyclotosaurus from the Upper Triassic of Poland

2005

A gap in the Late Triassic fossil record of the capitosaur amphibian Cyclotosaurus is filled by new material from lacustrine deposits at Krasiejow, Poland, corresponding in age to the Lehrberg Beds (late Carnian) of Germany. The skull of the Polish cyclotosaur is intermediate in several respects between that of Cyclotosaurus robustus from the middle Carnian Schilfsandstein of Germany and the younger C. mordax from the early Norian Stubensandstein. It shows a decrease in the width of the skull and in the degree of con- cavity of the posterior margin of the skull roof. The differ- ences are significant enough to warrant erection of a novel species, the name Cyclotosaurus intermedius sp. nov. …

Gli Angiomi Primitivi Dei Muscoli Striati

1957

Starting from a personal observation of primary angioma of the left pectoralis major, investigations on muscle angiomas are resumed, with the purpose of completing the latest statistical analyses. 75 new cases are reviewed which, added to those from Shallow, Eger and Wagner, bring the number of angiomas referred in the literature up to 111. The etiopathogenesis, pathological anatomy and symptomatology of this affection are considererd and the differential diagnosis, still very difficult, is discussed. A diagnostical misunderstanding may be avoided or limited by thinking of this possible occurrence. The numerous means, currently available for an easier diagnosis are exposed, like direct roe…

Preoperative Considerations on the Thorax: Anatomy and Surgical Landmarks

2020

The thoracic wall is the higher part of the thorax consisting of a musculoskeletal structure including the mediastinum, the pleuropulmonary cavities, viscera, lymphatic, vascular, and nervous structures. Its dimensions are influenced by age, gender, and life style including physical training. It changes constantly in shape and size according to respiration: Generally, males show an abdominal pattern while females have usually a thoracic respiration pattern. The anatomy of the chest differs between men and women, with considerable variations among different ages and races. The skin is thicker in male than in female. In the male thorax, hair is frequently present and the mammary glands are un…

Influence of different attentional focus on EMG amplitude and contraction duration during the bench press at different speeds

2018

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether using different focus affects electromyographic (EMG) amplitude and contraction duration during bench press performed at explosive and controlled speeds. Eighteen young male individuals were familiarized with the procedure and performed the one-maximum repetition (1RM) test in the first session. In the second session, participants performed the bench press exercise at 50% of the 1RM with 3 different attentional focuses (regular focus on moving the load vs contracting the pectoralis vs contracting the triceps) at 2 speed conditions (controlled vs maximal speed). During the controlled speed condition, focusing on using either the pectoralis…

Decellularized tracheal prelamination implant: A proposed bilateral double organ technique

2021

Introduction In tracheal replacement transplantation, prelamination is a critical stage. Nowadays, the most widely used prelamination technique is the prethoracic fascia flap with lateral thoracic artery. We propose a flap based on the internal thoracic artery, which allows a relatively non-aggressive double organ implant, and we have tested its efficacy in decellularized tracheas. Material and methods Tracheas of albino New Zealand rabbits were decellularized following a protocol that uses detergents and cryogenization, sterilized with 1kGy gamma radiation and tutorized with a stent. Bilateral pedicled flaps made of pectoral fascia and a muscular component were harvested through a longitud…

Surgical treatment of pharyngostomes in irradiated patients. Our experience with musculocutaneous pectoralis major flap and hyperbaric oxygen therapy

2005

Surgical treatment of pharyngostomes in irradiated patients. Our experience with musculocutaneous pectoralis major flap and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Cordova A, Corradino B, Pirrello R, Di Lorenzo S, Dispenza C, Moschella F. Source Dipratimento di Discipline Chirurgiche ed Oncologiche, Divisione di Chirurgia Plastica e Ricostruttiva, Facolta di Medicina, Universita di Palermo, Palermo, Italy. chirplas@unipa.it Abstract CONCLUSION: Our experience confirms that pectoralis major flap is the first-choice technique for repairing recurrent hypopharyngeal fistulae in previously irradiated patients in whom microsurgical techniques are not indicated, and that hyperbaric oxygen therapy helps to solv…
