Absence of endo-1,4-β-glucanase KOR1 alters the Jasmonate-dependent defence response to Pseudomonas syringae in Arabidopsis

2014

During plant-pathogen interactions, the plant cell wall forms part of active defence against invaders. In recent years, cell wall-editing enzymes, associated with growth and development, have been related to plant susceptibility or resistance. Our previous work identified a role for several tomato and Arabidopsis endo-1,4-β-glucanases (EGs) in plant-pathogen interactions. Here we studied the response of the Arabidopsis thaliana T-DNA insertion mutant lacking EG Korrigan1 (KOR1) infected with Pseudomonas syringae. KOR1 is predicted to be an EG which is thought to participate in cellulose biosynthesis. We found that kor1-1 plants were more susceptible to P. syringae, and displayed severe dise…

A headspace solid-phase microextraction method of use in monitoring hexanal and pentane during storage: Application to liquid infant foods and powder…

2006

The determination of two secondary lipid oxidation compounds (hexanal and pentane) in liquid infant foods using a headspace solid-phase microextraction gas chromatographic (HS-SPME-GC) method has been developed and validated. The HS-SPME analytical conditions (fibre position, equilibration and sampling times) were selected. The analytical parameters of the method (linearity: hexanal from 2.48 to 84.78 ng/g, pentane from 6.21 to 79.55 ng/g; precision: hexanal 2.87%, pentane 2.343.46%; recovery: hexanal 106.60%, pentane 95.39%; detection limit: hexanal 3.63 ng and pentane 4.2 ng) demonstrate the usefulness of the method. Once optimized, the method was applied to liquid infant foods based on m…

Silver ion chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in the structural analysis of cyclic dienoic acids formed in frying oils

1995

The nature of the cyclic monoenoic fatty acids formed from linoleic acid in sunflower oil heated to 275°C has been determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry of the picolinyl ester derivatives, before and after hydrogenation and deuteration, and following simplification by silver ion high-performance liquid chromatography. In addition, they were examined by gas chromatography-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Cyclopentene fatty acids (50% of the total monoenes) were formed from C-8 to C-12 and C-10 to C-14 of the original chain in equal amounts with unique stereochemistry. In some isomers the double bond appeared to remain in its original position, and in others it migrated t…

Polar organic marker compounds in PM2.5 aerosol from a mixed forest site in western Germany

2008

The molecular composition of PM2.5 (particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter2.5 microm) aerosol samples collected during a very warm and dry 2003 summer period at a mixed forest site in Jülich, Germany, was determined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry in an effort to evaluate photooxidation products of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) and other markers for aerosol source characterization. Six major classes of compounds represented by twenty-four individual organic species were identified and measured, comprising tracers for biomass combustion, short-chain acids, fatty acids, sugars/sugar alcohols, and tracers for the photooxidation of isoprene and alpha-/beta-pinene.…

Diastereo- and enantioselective synthesis of orthogonally protected 2,4-diaminocyclopentanecarboxylates: a flip from beta-amino- to beta,gamma-diamin…

2007

Conformationally restricted, orthogonally protected 2,4-diaminocarboxylates with a cyclopentane skeleton were efficiently synthesized from beta-lactam 6, the syntheses involving strategies of diastereoselective epoxidation of the beta-lactam and the corresponding monoprotected amino esters with opposite selectivities followed by regioselective opening of the oxirane ring with sodium azide. The enantiomers were also prepared. This new class of compounds can be regarded not only as conformationally constrained beta,gamma-diamino acid derivatives but also as potential functionalized carbocyclic nucleoside precursors.

The cyclopentenone-type prostaglandin 15-deoxy-delta12,14-prostaglandin J2 inhibits CD95 ligand gene expression in T lymphocytes: interference with p…

2003

Abstract 15-Deoxy-Δ12,14-PGJ2 (15d-PGJ2) is a cyclopentenone-type PG endowed with anti-inflammatory properties and produced by different cells, including those of the immune system. 15d-PGJ2 is a natural ligand of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-γ nuclear receptor, but relevant PPARγ-independent actions mediated by this prostanoid have been described. Fas (APO-1/CD95) and its ligand (Fas-L) are cell surface proteins whose interaction activates apoptosis of Fas-expressing targets. In T cells, the Fas-Fas-L system regulates activation-induced cell death and has been implicated in diseases in which lymphocyte homeostasis is compromised. Moreover, several studies have desc…

Determination of insolubles in diesel lubricating oil by FIA-visible spectrometry

2003

Insolubles determination is one of the parameters usually recommended to evaluate the residual life of oil because their presence at elevated levels in diesel lubricating oil changes the viscosity, prematurely clogs filters and is one of the major factors in causing abrasive engine wear. The proposed method employs visible spectrophotometric detection in association with flow injection analysis. The results obtained by this method were compared with the ones obtained by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FT-IR) since this is the most employed method for insolubles determination. The proposed method presented a linear response from 0 to 3% (w/w) of insolubles in pentane (ASTM D-893). T…

First donor stabilized-phosphenium rhodium complexes

2008

Abstract The coordination properties of a donor stabilized-phosphenium adduct have been examined in rhodium chemistry. The preparation as well as the characterization of the first examples of donor stabilized-phosphenium rhodium(I) complexes is reported in this paper. Indeed, mono- and di-cationic rhodium complexes were obtained in quantitative yield by the direct addition of this imidazolium P(III)-ligand to [RhCl(1,5-COD)] 2 in CH 2 Cl 2 solution with a 1:1 P/Rh ratio under argon and 2:1 P/Rh ratio under CO atmosphere, respectively. Crystal structure of the bis-cationic donor stabilized-phosphenium rhodium(I) complex has been obtained from an acetone/pentane mixture. Its molecular structu…
