Taming of the Rake: From a Man about Town to a Man at Home in "The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall" by Anne Brontë
2015
In „The Tenant of Wildfell Hall” Anne Brontë considers one of the most burning questions of the Victorian period, i.e. the problem of male domestic violence. The novel contributed to the public debate on the defects of the legal system which discriminated against women and made them totally dependent on their fathers and husbands. However, the writer’s diagnosis of the social issue does not focus on the formal aspects only, as she believed that political action should be accompanied by a farreaching reconceptualisation of nineteenth-century models of femininity and masculinity. Brontë suggests that legal reform is not enough to eliminate such pathologies as marital abuse. She tries to disma…
The relationship between controlling coaching behavior, fear of failure, and achievement goals in youth ice hockey players
2018
A notable volume of research has been conducted on controlling coaching behavior, fear of failure, and achievement goals. However, limited research has been done utilizing all three elements in a single study. Previous literature suggests that fear of failure is positively related to mastery-avoidance (MAv), performance-approach (Papp), and performance-avoidance (PAv) achievement goals (Conroy & Elliot, 2004) and can change achievement motivation goals more towards avoidance behavior (Conroy & Elliot, 2004). Conroy and Coatsworth (2007) have argued that controlling coaching behavior may influence the progress of athletes’ fear of failure. This study involved 336 competitive youth ice hockey …
Carbohydrates consumption pre exercise attenuate bone resorption marker in young female gymnasts
2019
Purpose: Bone mineral density (BMD) is modified by environmental factors like diet, nutritional status and exercise. Athletes have higher bone turnover than sedentary individuals but prolonged exercise might result in a negative remodeling balance and compromise skeletal health. Strenuous exercise and fasting may induce osteoclastic activity that is not necessarily accompanied by a compensatory increase in osteoblastic activity. The purpose of this study was to understand if there is specific nutrition to allow best performance and reduce bone resorption that occurs after exercise in athletes. Methods: A group of 28 gymnasts aged between 9 and 14 years old (13 ± 1.71) playing artistic gymna…
Interrelationship Between Age, Gender, and Weight Status on Motor Coordination in Italian Children and Early Adolescents Aged 6–13 Years Old
2021
Although numerous evidences reported a negative correlation between motor coordination (MC) and overweight/obesity in children and adolescents, the interrelationship between age, gender, and weight status is still debatable. Hence, the aim of this cross-sectional study was to examine the association between MC and weight status according to age and gender across childhood and early adolescence in a large sample of Italian elementary and middle school students. A number of 1961 Italian school students (1,026 boys, 935 girls) was stratified in three consecutive age groups (6–7, 8–10, and 11–13 years) and four weight status categories (underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obese) accordi…
Individual mindfulness and objective performance. An experimental approach
2023
2019
The essay deals with the problem of the so called damages in lieu of the performance and its relations with the specific performance and the resolution. The author attempts to demonstrate that the issue of the damages in lieu of the performance is central to the debate on the priority of the specific performance and on the extent of compensation for damages from resolution.
COMPORTAMIENTO A LARGO PLAZO DE LAS OFERTAS PÚBLICAS DE VENTA SUBSIGUIENTES EN EL MERCADO ESPAÑOL
2002
This research investigates the long¿run after¿performance of firms conducting seasoned equity offering in the Spanish market during the period 1993¿1999. Due to statistical and conceptual problems related to the estimation and contrast of long¿horizon returns, we analyse the robustness of results to different methodologies. We obtain evidence that issuers experience negative abnormal returns economically and statistically significant during the year after the event. These results are robust to different metrics, estimations and tests used. Finally, underperformance is more severe in small, growth firms. En este trabajo estudiamos si las empresas cotizadas que realizan un oferta pública de v…
Increasing Yield and Antioxidative Performance of Litchi Pericarp Procyanidins in Baked Food by Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction Coupled with Enzymatic…
2018
Extraction with organic solvents is a traditional method to isolate bioactive compounds, which is energy-wasting and time-consuming. Therefore, enzyme and ultrasound treatments were combined to assist the extraction of oligomeric procyanidins from litchi pericarp (LPOPC), as an innovative approach to replace conventional extraction methods. Under optimum conditions (enzyme concentration 0.12 mg/mL, ultrasonic power 300 W, ultrasonic time 80 min, and liquid/solid ratio 10 mL/g), the yield of LPOPC could be improved up to 13.5%. HPLC analysis indicated that the oligomeric procyanidins (OPC) content of LPOPC from proposed extraction was up to 89.6%, mainly including (&minus

Health anxiety instead of performance anxiety among opera singers
2009
Opera singers experience certain work strains; they work as soloists, depend highly on their vocal functioning and have to exhibit a consistent level of superior performance throughout a long career. The literature also shows that they report increased levels of hypochondriasis and extensive concern about vocal functioning and somatic impairment. Data from a previous study (Sandgren, 2002) were further explored to better understand the opera singers’ preoccupation with vocal functioning. The aim of the study was to explore if psychological and voice-related variables would be related to concepts of performance anxiety and health anxiety. The results indicated that psychological and voice-re…
