Reoperation and the centrifugal pump?

1992

Postperfusion syndrome is still a problem in long cardiac operations using extracorporeal circulation (ECC). To evaluate whether or not centrifugal blood pumping during open heart surgery is beneficial, a randomized, prospective study was undertaken of 50 consecutive patients undergoing elective coronary artery bypass grafting. The patients were divided into two groups of 25 each. In group 1 a centrifugal pump (Biomedicus) was used as arterial blood pump, while in group 2 a roller pump (Stockert) was used. The two groups did not differ significantly and the number of variables during surgery was kept low (identical perfusion set, two surgeons, minimal cardiotomy suction). The parameters stu…

Exercise ECG Testing and Stress Cardiac Magnetic Resonance for Risk Prediction in Patients With Chronic Coronary Syndrome

2021

Vasodilator stress cardiac magnetic resonance (VS-CMR) has become crucial in the workup of patients with known or suspected chronic coronary syndrome (CCS). Whether traditional exercise ECG testing (ExECG) contributes prognostic information beyond VS-CMR is unclear. We retrospectively included 288 patients with known or suspected CCS who had undergone ExECG and subsequent VS-CMR in our institution. Clinical, ExECG, and VS-CMR variables were recorded. We defined the serious adverse events (SAE) as a combined endpoint of acute coronary syndrome, admission for heart failure, or all-cause death.During a mean follow-up of 4.2 ± 2.15 yr, we registered 27 SAE (15 admissions for acute coronary syndr…

Acute and delayed toxicity of gemcitabine administered during isolated lung perfusion: a preclinical dose-escalation study in pigs.

2014

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide, with up to 25% of patients presenting with metastases at the time of diagnosis. Despite pulmonary metastasectomy many patients go on to develop pulmonary recurrence, which might be linked to the presence of lung micrometastases. In this setting, the adjuvant administration of high-dose chemotherapy by isolated lung perfusion (ILP) has shown encouraging results. However, the tolerance to and efficacy of modern gemcitabine (GEM)-based chemotherapy regimens during adjuvant ILP remain unknown. We conducted a dose-escalating preclinical study to evaluate the immediate and delayed toxicity of GEM in a pig model t…

Initial topical cooling followed by backtable Celsior flush perfusion provides excellent early graft function in porcine single lung transplantation …

2013

Topical in situ cooling of the donor lungs is a prerequisite for procurement of non-heart-beating donor lungs and may be of interest for living related lung donation.Twenty-four single lung transplants were performed in 4 groups of Landrace pigs (6 per group). Control LPD, control Celsior and topical cooling in situ, followed by LPD (exLPD) or Celsior (exCel) ex situ flush, were employed. All lungs were perfused antegrade with 1 liter of solution at 4°C. Lungs were stored immersed in preservation solution for 24 hours at 4°C. After transplantation of the left lung, the right recipient bronchus and pulmonary artery were clamped.Four of 6 animals each in the LPD and Celsior groups and all 6 a…

The effects of the tricyclic antidepressants desipramine, doxepin and iprindole on the isolated perfused rabbit heart.

1974

1. The right sympathetic nerves of isolated perfused rabbit hearts were stimulated electrically (1 msec, supramaximal strength, 15 sec) with increasing frequencies (0.25–20 Hz) at 3 min intervals before and 20 min after starting perfusion with desipramine, doxepin or iprindole. Ventricular rate, right atrial and right ventricular tensions were recorded using the transverse method. 2. Sympathic nerve stimulation caused ventricular arrhythmias in the presence of desipramine (3.3 and 5.0 · 10−6 M) and doxepin (1.6−4.7×10−6 M) but failed to produce arrhythmias in hearts not exposed to drugs, or after iprindole, cocaine and atropine. 3. When desipramine or doxepin was added to Tyrode solution co…

VALUTAZIONE ANGIOGRAFICA DELLA RIPERFUSIONE MIOCARDICA IN PAZIENTI CON INFARTO MIOCARDICO ACUTO TRATTATI CON ANGIOPLASTICA PRIMARIA

2008

Measurements of alveolar pO2 using 19F-MRI in partial liquid ventilation.

2003

Rationale and Objectives: Partial liquid ventilation using Perfluorcarbon (PFC) is an innovative treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome. However, the underlying mechanisms are not totally clear. The aim was to investigate the distribution of oxygen partial pressure within the PFC-filled lung (ppO 2 ). Methods: Nine pigs underwent partial liquid ventilation, receiving 20 mL PFC/kg bodyweight (bw). Measurements were obtained by a chemical shift selective TurboFLASH sequence at different axial lung levels. ppO 2 was calculated from 1 9 F-MRI by nonlinear curve T 1 -fitting technique after noise correction. Results: Quantification and distribution of ppO 2 was performed successfully. …
