Abstract The increasing number of older cancer patients seen in daily practice demands reflection on how to optimize their care during the perioperative period. Optimally tailored surgical management, at present the most successful cancer treatment, firmly rests on an accurate and careful anesthesiological management. The unique peculiarities of anesthesia in older cancer patients prompted the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) to put together a panel of international experts with the aim of reviewing the literature and drafting a consensus document. Octaplex is a new prothrombin complex concentrate that is indicated for treatment or perioperative prophylaxis of bleeding in patients with deficiency of the prothrombin complex coagulation factors, such as deficiency caused by treatment with vitamin K antagonists or by liver failure, when rapid correction of bleeding is required. The study was conducted to demonstrate both prevention of bleeding and achievement of haemostasis in acute bleeding and to obtain further information about the safety of administration of Octaplex.

Background Closure of the posterolateral defect in some cases of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) can be difficult. Aim The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS® ) Society guidelines aim to standardise perioperative care in colorectal surgery via 25 principles. We aimed to assess the variation in uptake of these principles across an international network of colorectal units.
