Research Letter: is neuroticism a risk factor for postpartum depression?

2012

Although the relationship between personality and depressive illness is complex (Shea, 2005), there is empirical evidence that some personality features such as neuroticism, harm avoidance, introversion, dependency, self-criticism or perfectionism are related to depressive illness risk (Gunderson et al. 1999). Moreover, personality traits, especially neuroticism, may explain the increased prevalence of depression among females (Goodwin & Gotlib, 2004). Few studies have explored neuroticism, extraversion and psychoticism as risk factors for depression after an event as stressful as childbirth. Pitt (1968) was the first author to report high scores on neuroticism and low scores on extraversio…

The Narcissistic Personality Inventory 8: Validation of a Brief Measure of Narcissistic Personality

2020

The present study was conducted with the aim of constructing and validating a short form of the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI). The NPI is the most widely-applied measure for the assessment of narcissistic personality traits and, therefore, it is of great relevance for many research questions in personality and social psychology. To develop the short scale, we first found the optimal eight-item solution among all valid combinations of the NPI-15 items in an exploratory subsample (n = 1,165) of our complete representative sample of the German general population. We then validated this model in a confirmatory subsample (n = 1,126). Additionally, we examined its invariance across age…

Diagnóstico en educación y transiciones

2014

Emotion awareness, mood and personality as predictors of somatic complaints in children and adults

2016

Background: The relationships among somatic complaints, emotion awareness and mood have been observed in late childhood and adolescence, but very few studies have been carried out in adult populations like this work. This study also incorporates personality dimensions that can exacerbate or reduce the emergence of somatic complaints. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyse the combined contribution of emotion awareness, mood, and personality to healthy children and adults’ somatic complaints. Method: Self-reported questionnaires about emotion awareness, mood, personality, and somatic complaints were administered to 1,476 children (7-14 years old) and 479 adults (27-56 years old). Res…

Effects of the Best Possible Self intervention: A systematic review and meta-analysis

2019

The Best Possible Self (BPS) exercise promotes a positive view of oneself in the best possible future, after working hard towards it. Since the first work that attempted to examine the benefits of this intervention in 2001, studies on the BPS have grown exponentially and, currently, this is one of the most widely used Positive Psychology Interventions. However, little is yet known about its overall effectiveness in increasing wellbeing outcomes. Thus, the aim of this meta-analysis is to shed light on this question. A systematic literature search was conducted, and 29 studies (in 26 articles) met the inclusion criteria of empirically testing the intervention and comparing it to a control con…

External strength, inner weakness: main factors in child-to-parent violence

2019

[EN] Child-to-parent violence (CPV) is an increasingly frequent problem in young people, as a result of a process of social transformation and ineffective parental styles. As a consequence, it has shaped a change in the leading head within the family. The prevalence and incidence rates of CPV have increased in the recent years. For that reason, our main objective is to perform a bibliographic review in order to analyze the main axes that revolve around it, and provide information to increase the scientific studies. More specifically, this article begins by defining the CPV and its types, associated breeding styles and prevalence data in recent years. In the second chapter, the clinical, edu…
