European ADPKD Forum multidisciplinary position statement on autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease care

2018

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is a chronic, progressive condition characterized by the development and growth of cysts in the kidneys and other organs and by additional systemic manifestations. Individuals with ADPKD should have access to lifelong, multidisciplinary, specialist and patient-centred care involving: (i) a holistic and comprehensive assessment of the manifestations, complications, prognosis and impact of the disease (in physical, psychological and social terms) on the patient and their family; (ii) access to treatment to relieve symptoms, manage complications, preserve kidney function, lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and maintain quality of life;…

La digitalizzazione del patrimonio come strumento per la conoscenza, un’esperienza sull’architettura ferroviaria siciliana

2022

The process of digitisation of the artistic and cultural heritage has enriched the possibilities of representation and communication of architecture, increasing the modes of reproduction, fruition as well as the possibilities of protection and preservation. The study of this research draws attention on the continuous progress of technology in the cultural field and highlights the important collaboration that exists between digital and analog representation, identifying, with this synergy, a virtuous path that allows, through the use of different methodologies, to be able to know and analyze the historical phases of a building. In particular, the attention was directed to the Caltanissetta C…

From Image to Investigation 3D Reconstruction with Perspective Restitution

2022

The memory of hundreds gone buildings is preserved by few photographic images. Perspective restitution with digital representation tools can be used today to reconstruct these buildings directly in 3D space. Digital representation has overcome many limitations that affected perspective restitution in the pre-digital era. In this paper the inner space of the church of San Michele in Trapani, destroyed at the end of the 50’, is reconstructed with the aid of three period photographic images. Some architectural elements that escaped destruction and are today located in a new church near Trapani have been surveyed with laser scanning and SfM photogrammetric techniques. Surveyed elements provided…

Case study on teachers’ contribution to children’s participation in Finnish preschool classrooms during structured learning sessions

2013

The main aim of this study was to identify different teaching practices and explore the types of opportunities that they provide for children’s participation in four different Finnish preschool classrooms for 6-year olds during structured learning sessions. Observational data of four preschool teachers were analyzed according to the principles of qualitative content analysis. Three themes of teachers’ practices were identified, which described the key practices through which teachers influence children’s participation, namely, through discussion and conversations; by referring to shared rules and managing the classroom; and through demonstrating pedagogical sensitivity and understanding tow…

Mentalization-based Families First Group Intervention for First-Time Parents: Parents’ Perspective

2021

The study investigated, first, the benefits reported by first-time parents after attending a Families First mentalization-based group intervention and, second, looked for indicators of mentalization. A total of 367 mothers and 183 fathers completed a web-based questionnaire. Data analysis concentrated on parents’ responses to seven open questions that were subsequently processed by qualitative thematic analysis. Also a chi-square test was performed to study the differences between mothers and fathers on the benefits reported. Four main benefits were reported by the parents: peer support, understanding of the baby, insights into oneself as parent and parent-child interaction, and family invo…

Identity profiles and digital engagement among Finnish high school students

2018

Developing a stable personal identity is considered a more precarious task in today’s society than hitherto. Skilful digital engagement may, however, constitute a valuable asset in necessary identity exploration and commitment. Applying a person-oriented approach, we examined for the first time how identity profiles are associated with digital engagement, operationalized as digital competence, gaming seriousness, type of internet activity and excessive ICT use. After controlling for gender, life satisfaction and parental SES, this study of a Finnish high school sample (N = 932) revealed that adolescents with future commitments and some exploration of options (achievement, searching moratori…

From omniscient narrator to involved participants: Places and spaces “activated” in the EHEC O104:H4 crisis 2011

2020

Crisis management is often conceived from the position of an omniscient narrator, albeit the general consensus that crises are subjectively interpreted and experienced. The paper makes an analytical attempt to de-homogenize the notion of crisis. We argue that the perception of crises differs and present a spatial perspective on crisis to foreground the positionality of different actor groups. By referring to the EHEC outbreak 2011 in Germany, we explore two spatial configurations that seem to be of particular relevance: territories embedded in a nested hierarchy and topologies of interconnected places. State authorities think and act strongly in terms of territorial borders and along sector…

Cities as Enablers of Innovation

2018

The relationship between cities and innovation in present times can be regarded from a distinctive perspective. As it is vital to rethink our development patterns, in order to contrast global warming and its ominous threats, cities are themselves concrete materials for innovation. Therefore, cities challenge the very same concept of innovation by adding the long-term perspective to its social assessment framework. Cities are therefore seen both as hotbeds of creativity and innovative culture and places where different actors (policy makers, civil servants, NGOs, citizens, start-uppers, entrepreneurs, etc.) receive continuous stimuli to engage in innovations that fulfil specific needs (be th…

Libertad de conciencia, integración e inmigración. Lecciones desde el Reino Unido

2020
