Institutional and economic drivers of entrepreneurship: An international perspective

2014

Abstract Entrepreneurial activity varies significantly across countries and over time. The economic and institutional context is a determining factor that can drive and lend shape to entrepreneurial activity. The search for a deeper understanding of the role of this factor constitutes a promising and important research stream. A thorough review of the specialist literature identifies groups of countries with similar economic and institutional environments. Subsequent analysis highlights differences in entrepreneurial activity and innovation outcomes between these homogeneous groups. Results indicate significant differences, not only in entrepreneurial activity, but also in the type of entre…

The determinants of social CRM entrepreneurship : An institutional perspective

2021

Abstract Despite a growing interest in social media adoption by corporations, there is minimal knowledge about the drivers of social customer relationship management (SCRM). This study examines the determinants of SCRM entrepreneurship from an institutional perspective and specifically from the banking sector. Data on 19 banks were obtained from 183 responses to a questionnaire. These data were analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS) path modeling. The findings show that organizational and technological contexts have a significant positive impact on SCRM entrepreneurship. The results also reveal a significant impact of institutional normative and coercive pressures on SCRM entrepreneurshi…

Differential Effects of Bilateral Norms on SMEs’ Export Relationships: A Dynamic Perspective

2017

Prior research has established the pivotal role of bilateral norms in relationship marketing, identifying them as effective relational governance mechanisms that firms can use to manage their international alliances with overseas intermediaries. Unfortunately, few studies have examined differential effects of specific norms on positive and negative behaviors, let alone norms’ effectiveness in the harsh export context of resource-constrained small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). To address these gaps, the authors explicate the effects of three norms (continuity expectations, equity, and cooperation) on both dysfunctional and productive behaviors of foreign distributors. Using two conse…

Dystopia deconstructed: Applying the triple helix model to a failed utopia

2016

This study analyzes the failure of a literary utopian system—Veronica Roth's Divergent—drawing from difference, which the divergent and the factionless represent. The analysis of the causes and consequences of difference from a socioeconomic perspective reveals a system that the triple helix model can improve. The adapted model based on cooperation and knowledge transfer adds two connections to the three main axes: Universities (Erudite), Government (Abnegation), and Industry (Amity), and gives the divergent a key role: inter-faction coordinators. Following a review of European migration policies, the study explores the creation of a new faction for the factionless. Regarding innovation, th…

Innovation at universities: A fuzzy-set approach for MOOC-intensiveness

2016

Abstract Typologies can be an adequate tool for analyzing the complex cause–effect relationships between innovation and the supply of university courses. This study presents a new theoretical perspective on causal core and periphery factors for MOOC-intensiveness in universities using fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA). The findings show how this new theoretical perspective allows for two different typologies. Different configurations lead to an outcome combination of different core and peripheral conditions building on internal, strategic, and external factors. However, the two configurations leading to the absence of the outcome simply refer to the absence of a strategic f…

Why and how to use enterprise social media platforms: The employee’s perspective

2021

Abstract Literature supports the relevance of knowledge sharing in a company. Considering that social media plays an important role in this process, this paper analyzes the antecedents and consequences of the use of enterprise social media platforms according to the employee's perception. Based on the Motivation-Opportunity-Ability framework and using two different methodologies (Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling and fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis), we find that three different combinations of motivation, opportunity and ability factors, combined in pairs, promote the use of enterprise social media platforms, leading to knowledge creation and task performance. Cross-cultural Differences in Movie Selection. Decision-making of German, U.S., and Singaporean Media Users for Video-on-Demand Movies

2017

ABSTRACTThis article investigates the process of individual decision-making for movies on video-on-demand platforms from a cross-cultural perspective. Models of decision-making and movie selection act as theoretical underpinning. The article focuses on the information search phase and examines media consumers' information use during movie selection. Empirically the article relies on an online survey among N = 694 German, the U.S., and Singaporean students. Results indicate that participants considered only a limited amount of information before carrying out their choice. Participants shared a preference for product-related cues over crowd-related cues signaling previous user-experiences. Wi…

Antecedents and consequences of market orientation in public organisations

2001

The aim of this article is to link research on market orientation in the field of marketing with the proposals of reform and modernisation made in the administrative and political field. Market orientation in business organisations is a highly topical issue, or even more, it is considered by someacademicians as the new marketing paradigm. Following these studies and their proposals of application in other sectors, a market orientation model is developed, from a public management perspective, in the setting of local governments through testing a set ofhypotheses about the construct and its antecedents and consequences. Antecedents explaining why some local governments are more market oriente…
