Entanglements, transmission processes and social identities : the technical traditions of ceramics in the Trois-Lacs region and its margins (3600-300…

2019

In Western Europe, the second half of the 4th millennium is a turning point. On the Swiss Plateau, this phase is characterized by the end of Middle Neolithic cultures (Cortaillod and Pfyn) around 3550 BCE, and the emergence of Horgen after 3250 BCE. The transition between these two phases is now better documented thanks to Port-Conty type and Pfyn/Horgen settlements dated around 3400 BCE. This work aims to identify the cultural substract at the origin of the Horgen by characterizing the technical identities and entanglements at the end of the 4th millennium, then by identifying over time the transmission or abandonment of certain ways of making pots in order to determine the share of local …

Salīdzinošā analīze attēlu aizpildīšanas uzdevumam, izmantojot GAN neironu tīklus

2022

2018

Masteroppgave samfunnskommunikasjon KOM500 - Universitetet i Agder 2018 PurposeThe aim of this qualitative study was to obtain a better overview over the perceptions towards benefit realization in small online education projects, in the specialist health care services.Design/Methodology/ApproachThe study was based on two case projects involving online patient education. In total, 6 in-depth interviews were conducted, with 2 project managers and 4 project participants. The response from these interviews were then coded and categorized using Grounded Theoryto describe the most essential themes.FindingsThe vast majority of the literature on benefit realization is based on projects with moderat…

On the Ability of Perfluorohexane Sulfonate (PFHxS) Bioaccumulation by Two

2019

PFASs (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are highly fluorinated, aliphatic, synthetic compounds with high thermal and chemical stability as well as unique amphiphilic properties which make them ingredients in a range of industrial processes. PFASs have attracted consideration due to their persistence, toxicity and bioaccumulation tendency in the environment. Recently, attention has begun to be addressed to shorter-chain PFASs, such as perfluorohexane sulfonate [PFHxS], apparently less toxic to and more easily eliminated from lab animals. However, short-chain PFASs represent end-products from the transformation of fluorotelomers whose biotic breakdown reactions have not been ide…

An inter-laboratory comparison to evaluate the suitability of EN 1787 standard to detect irradiation in plant-origin foods with health benefits

2020

Abstract This paper reports the results of a study carried out to verify the applicability of the EN 1787 method, which uses the Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) technique for the identification of irradiated plant-origin foods with health benefits. The method was tested on samples of herbal ingredients of Plant Food Supplements (PFSs), nuts and fresh blueberries. Untreated and irradiated samples of Camellia sinensis (leaves) Ginkgo biloba (leaves), Glycine max (seeds), Silybum marianum (fruits), Vaccinium myrtillus (fruits), almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, pistachios, walnuts and fresh blueberries were analysed. The work includes an inter-laboratory blind test involving five Italian laboratories…

Two new diterpenoids from kencur (Kaempferia galanga): Structure elucidation and chemosystematic significance

2021

Abstract Aromatic ginger or kencur (Kaempferia galanga L.) rhizomes are ground as a spice or pickled for consumption in south-east Asian cuisines; although widely used, until recently it has been less studied chemically than white and red ginger. Hydro-distillate extracts have identified several compounds that exhibit anticancer activity against select tumor cell lines in vitro, and most recently chemical analyses have focused on rhizome metabolites present in organic extracts. Here we report on two new diterpenoids including Δ8(14),15 polyhydroxlated isopimardienes, 1α-hydroperoxy-2α,6,7-trihydroxy-isopimara-6(7),8(14),15-triene (kaemgalangol E; 1) and 1α,7β-hydroxy-isopimara-8(14),15-dien…

Fine-grain beta diversity in Palaearctic open vegetation: variability within and between biomes and vegetation types

2021

Aims: To quantify how fine-grain (within-plot) beta diversity differs among biomes and vegetation types. Study area: Palaearctic biogeographic realm. Methods: We extracted 4,654 nested-plot series with at least four different grain sizes between 0.0001 m² and 1,024 m² from the GrassPlot database spanning broad geographic and ecological gradients. Next, we calculated the slope parameter (z-value) of the power-law species–area relationship (SAR) to use as a measure of multiplicative beta diversity. We did this separately for vascular plants, bryophytes and lichens and for the three groups combined (complete vegetation). We then tested whether z-values differed between biomes, ecological-physi…

Predominio de las cheapfakes en redes sociales. Complejidad técnica y funciones textuales de la desinformación desmentida en Argentina durante 2020

2022

Research on disinformation concentrates a growing interest in the design of deepfakes and the possible political, economic and social implications of their viral dissemination on social networks. However, as much or more worrying are the cheapfakes: the hoaxes created by the users themselves through the native features of their mobile devices, the rude manipulation of pre-existing files or the simple addition of text that alters the original meaning of the shared messages. The objective of this research is to analyze the degree of technological complexity of the disinformation that circulated in Argentina during 2020 throughout social networks, as well as the role that the text played in it…

Impact of ultrasound-assisted extraction and solvent composition on bioactive compounds and in vitro biological activities of thyme and rosemary

2020

Mediterranean herbs, specially thyme and rosemary, are important ingredients in food preparation and more recently have been studied as natural sources of bioactive compounds. This study aimed to study the effect of matrix (thyme vs. rosemary), and extraction protocol (conventional extraction vs. ultrasound assisted extraction) solvent composition (water vs. 50:50 ethanol:water solution) on the extraction of high value compounds (phenolic compounds, flavonoids and carotenoids) and also explore the antioxidant, antimicrobial (Listeria innocua, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella enterica), probiotic (Lactobacillus casei and Bifidobacterium lactis), and anti-inflammatory activities. The phe…

Intravital fluorescence microscopy for the study of leukocyte interaction with platelets and endothelial cells

1999

Publisher Summary This chapter introduces the techniques of intravital microscopy as a tool to study the microcirculation in intact animals under conditions of oxidative stress. Intravital fluorescence microscopy can be performed with almost all types of epiillumination microscopes available. The introduction of fluorescent dyes and refined epiillumination techniques has significantly advanced the possibilities of intravital microscopic studies of the liver microcirculation, including quantitative analyses of both circulatory parameters and cellular mechanisms. Using appropriate dyes, intravital microscopy allows the study of (1) microvascular perfusion, (2) leukocyte-endothelial cell inter…
