Supplementary optical phase transition in photorefractive coherent oscillator
2001
The semilinear photorefractive coherent oscillator with two counterpropagating pump waves may exhibit two optical phase transitions: one from a disordered state of wide-angle photorefractive scattering into a high-ordered state with the immobile photorefractive grating and the other one from the state with immobile grating into the state with two moving photorefractive gratings. We show, both experimentally and from calculations, that two these phase transitions are the second-order phase transitions.
Structural evolution of theCuGaO2delafossite under high pressure
2004
We have performed pseudopotential calculations and x-ray-diffraction and x-ray-absorption measurements on the ${\mathrm{CuGaO}}_{2}$ delafossite under high pressure. We have completely characterized the structural behavior of the low pressure phase. We have found out that the a axis is more compressible than the c axis, and as a consequence the oxygen octahedra defined by the gallium environment tend to become more regular under high pressure. We have determined the internal parameter describing the oxygen position inside the unit cell, and seen that it is nearly constant when pressure is applied. We have observed an irreversible phase transition affecting the copper environment but not the…
Experimental and theoretical study on the optical properties of LaVO4 crystals under pressure
2018
We report optical absorption and luminescence measurements in pure and trivalent neodymium (Nd3+) doped LaVO4 crystals up to 25 GPa. Nd3+ luminescence has been employed as a tool to follow the structural changes in the crystal. We also present band-structure and crystal-field calculations that provide the theoretical framework to accurately explain the observed experimental results. In particular, both optical absorption and luminescence measurements evidence that a phase transition takes place close to 12 GPa. They also provide information on the pressure dependence of the band-gap as well as the emission lines under compression. We found drastic changes in the optical properties of LaVO4 …
Crystal chemistry and phase transitions in mixed niobates crystallizing with tetragonal tungsten bronze structure
1990
Abstract New compounds crystallizing with tungsten bronze structure are reported. A dielectric study and X-ray analysis at various temperatures have allowed to describe some phase transitions.
3,5-Dialkoxy Substituted Triphenyl-tristriazolotriazines: Fluorescent Discotic Liquid Crystals
2015
Tristriazolotriazines with a threefold 3,5-dialkoxyphenyl substitution were prepared from the corresponding phenyltetrazoles and cyanuric chloride. These star-shaped compounds are discotic liquid crystals that form broad and stable thermotropic mesophases. The thermal behaviour was studied by DSC and polarizing optical microscopy. An increasing length of the side chains reduces the phase transition temperatures, this effect is more pronounced for the crystalline to mesophase transition than for the clearing temperature. XRD on an oriented sample revealed a hexagonal columnar structure for the mesophase. All TTTs emit a strong fluorescence in the UV-violet region.
Up-conversion luminescence dependence on structure in zirconia nanocrystals
2013
The zirconia samples containing two different concentrations of Er and Yb dopants were prepared using the Sol–Gel method and up-conversion luminescence was studied using the time-resolved techniques. The up-conversion luminescence depends on the oxygen content in surrounding gasses during annealing as well as on the annealing temperature. These dependencies indicate that ZrO2 intrinsic defects annealing and generation, phase transition as well as dopant redistribution take place. The possible role of these processes on up-conversion luminescence is discussed. The results of experiments confirmed that the annealing temperature has a crucial influence on up-conversion luminescence for samples…
Influence of BaTiO<inf>3</inf> on synthesis and structure of lead-free ceramics based on KNN
2012
In the present work lead-free compositions with a stoichiometric formula (1−x)(K 0.5 Na 0.5 )Nb 1−y Sb y O 3 -xBaTiO 3 (x=0.01, 0.02, 0.04; y=0.04, 0.07) were produced by solid state sintering method. Manganese oxide MnO 2 was used as a dopant in order to lower the sintering temperatures. The influence of BaTiO 3 on the microstructure, density, mechanical and electrical properties of Sb-substituted KNN ceramics was investigated. X-ray diffraction analysis revieled pure perovskite structure. Microstructural investigation of the ceramics samples showed homogeneous structure with a slightly rounded cubical grain shape. Phase transition temperature T c is shifted to lower temperatures in compar…
Thermo-Optical Investigation of Sodium-Bismuth Titanate Single Crystal and PLZT Ceramics
2005
Thermal lensing in relaxor type ferroelectrics as a function of temperature has been investigated by using pulse/probe method. Enhanced thermo-optical (TO) properties had been observed in 3d elements (Cu, Co) doped PLZT ceramics and in sodium-bismuth titanate single crystals near phase transitions (PT). Comparison of TO signals for several doped PLZT materials reveals that 0.5 wt.% Cu doping is responsible for improved thermal lensing parameters interpreted by optimal light absorption, heat transfer and possible PT adjustment. TO experiments in sodium-bismuth titanate single crystals ([001] cut) show enhancement of TO properties in the region of PT and coexisting phases (rhombohedral and te…
Dielectric Properties of Na0.5K0.5(Nb1-xSbx)O3+MnO2 Ceramics (x = 0.04, 0.05 and 0.06)
2011
Lead-free ceramics Na0.5K0.5(Nb1-xSbx)O3+0.5mol%MnO2 (x = 0.04, 0.05 and 0.06) were prepared by conventional sintering and hot pressing process; their microstructure and dielectric properties have been studied. It is found that increase of sintering temperature promotes the obtaining highly dense microstructure and increase in grain size while doping with Sb contributes to more dense and homogeneous microstructure and smaller grain size. Low frequency (100 Hz-200 kHz) investigations revealed the diffuse phase transitions. It can be concluded from experimental results that Sb doping improves dielectric properties. The obtained materials are expected to be promising candidates for lead-free e…
Two-state protein-like folding of a homopolymer chain
2010
Many small proteins fold via a first-order "all-or-none" transition directly from an expanded coil to a compact native state. Here we study an analogous direct freezing transition from an expanded coil to a compact crystallite for a simple flexible homopolymer. Wang-Landau sampling is used to construct the 1D density of states for square-well chains of length 128. Analysis within both the micro-canonical and canonical ensembles shows that, for a chain with sufficiently short-range interactions, the usual polymer collapse transition is preempted by a direct freezing or "folding" transition. A 2D free-energy landscape, built via subsequent multi-canonical sampling, reveals a dominant folding …
