Menopause: The Concepts and the Biological Background

2017

The exhaustion of the follicular endowment in the ovary defines the biological basis of menopause. The clinical implications are the loss of menses and fertility. Menopause is preceded by a series of clinical phases, reflected in the Staging of Reproductive Aging Workshop (STRAW). STRAW includes the different reproductive stages, with the clinically impacting menopausal transition and the end of the reproductive life, represented by the late post-menopausal period. Epidemiological studies show that the age at menopause, globally considered at around 50 years, undergoes significant differences across the world regions. High socio-economic conditions may prolong the age at menopause, but othe…

Third-harmonic generation in optical microfibers

2012

We explain the relatively easy, wideband, THG conversion that we observe experimentally in silica glass microfibers by the tapering geometry. As a challenging perspective, we compare THG effective efficiencies in silica and tellurite glasses.

Using information and communication technology in the recovery after a coronary artery bypass graft surgery: patients’ attitudes

2018

Controlled Ovarian Stimulation Induces a Functional Genomic Delay of the Endometrium with Potential Clinical Implications

2008

Context: Controlled ovarian stimulation induces morphological, biochemical, and functional genomic modifications of the human endometrium during the window of implantation. Objective: Our objective was to compare the gene expression profile of the human endometrium in natural vs. controlled ovarian stimulation cycles throughout the early-mid secretory transition using microarray technology. Method: Microarray data from 49 endometrial biopsies obtained from LH+1 to LH+9 (n = 25) in natural cycles and from human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) +1 to hCG+9 in controlled ovarian stimulation cycles (n = 24) were analyzed using different methods, such as clustering, profiling of biological processes…

The genomics of the human endometrium

2012

AbstractThe endometrium is a complex tissue that lines the inside of the endometrial cavity. The gene expression of the different endometrial cell types is regulated by ovarian steroids and paracrine-secreted molecules from neighbouring cells. Due to this regulation, the endometrium goes through cyclic modifications which can be divided simply into the proliferative phase, the secretory phase and the menstrual phase. Successful embryo implantation depends on three factors: embryo quality, the endometrium's state of receptivity, and a synchronised dialogue between the maternal tissue and the blastocyst. There is a need to characterise the endometrium's state of receptivity in order to preven…

66 RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PLASMA CHLORIDE LEVELS AND FOLLICLE DIAMETER IN CYCLING SPANISH PUREBRED MARES

2014

Several studies in cows have shown that plasma levels of chloride are positively correlated with the diameter of the preovulatory follicle (FD), establishing at the same time a significant positive association between plasma levels and intraoviducal concentration of this electrolyte (Hugentobler et al. 2007). These relationships may reflect the influence of changes in systemic metabolic plasma on follicular fluid, physiological events that might be closely related to the quality of the oocyte and granulosa cells of the preovulatory follicle (LeRoy et al. 2004). However, these mechanisms remain unknown in the mare. The objective of this research was to investigate the relationship between p…

Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ) in cancer patients treated with denosumab VS. zoledronic acid : a systematic review and meta-ana…

2020

Background The aim of the present study was to analyse the incidence, risk ratio (RR) and prognoses of two types of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ): denosumab-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (DRONJ) and Bisphosphonate-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaws (BRONJ) in cancer patients under treatment with denosumab or zoledronic acid (ZA). Material and Methods An electronic and manual search was conducted for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) until May 2019. Assessment of the identified studies, risk of bias and data extraction were performed independently by two reviewers. The incidence of DRONJ and BRONJ and the RR to develop MRONJ were calculated at 1 year, 2 years and …
