Genetic and Chemical Modifiers Of A CUG Toxicity Model in Drosophila

Non-coding CUG repeat expansions interfere with the activity of human Muscleblind-like (MBNL) proteins contributing to myotonic dystrophy 1 (DM1). To understand this toxic RNA gain-of-function mechanism we developed a Drosophila model expressing 60 pure and 480 interrupted CUG repeats in the context of a non-translatable RNA. These flies reproduced aspects of the DM1 pathology, most notably nuclear accumulation of CUG transcripts, muscle degeneration, splicing misregulation, and diminished Muscleblind function in vivo. Phenotypic tradeoffs between egg number and egg size in three parasitic anisakid nematodes

Phenotypic tradeoffs between number and size of eggs were tested in three component populations of three marine anisakid nematodes: Anisakis simplex, Pseudoterranova decipiens and Contracaecum osculatum. Body and uterine volumes (as proxies of female size), and egg number, mean egg volume and clutch volume (as descriptors of reproductive output) were measured in 50 females of each species. Treatment with bisphosphonates induces differentiation and activation of Vγ9Vδ2 T lymphocytes obtained from peripheral blood showing also an antitumoral effect in both in vitro and in vivo models. Aim of the present study was to determine in vivo the effect of BPs treatment in patients affected with osteoporosis on Vγ9Vδ2 T lymphocytes. Abstract Copper (Cu) chaperones constitute a family of small Cu+-binding proteins required for Cu homeostasis in eukaryotes. The ATX1 family of Cu chaperones specifically delivers Cu to heavy metal P-type ATPases. The plant Arabidopsis thaliana expresses the ATX1-like Cu chaperone CCH, which exhibits a plant-specific carboxy-terminal domain (CTD) with unique structural properties. We show that CCH homologues from other higher plants contain CTDs with structural properties similar to Arabidopsis CCH. The establishment of two rat colonic carcinomas in tissue culture

Two rat colonie carcinomas (DMH-Co-1 and DMH-Co-2) derived from dimethyl-hydrazine-induced metastasizing adenocarcinomas were established as permanent cell lines. By means of electron microscopy, immunofluorescence microscopy and biochemical analysis of cytoskeletal components, it has been shown that both tumor cell lines retain in vitro the phenotypic characteristics of the primary tumors. The in vitro growth properties revealed only minor differences between the two cell lines.
