Direct search for charged Higgs bosons in decays of top quarks

2001

We present a search for charged Higgs bosons in decays of pair-produced top quarks in pbar p collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV using 62.2 pb^-1 of data recorded by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. No evidence is found for signal, and we exclude at 95% confidence most regions of the (M higgs, tan beta) parameter space where the decay t->H b has a branching fraction greater than 0.36 and B(H -> tau nu) is large.

Evidence for production of single top quarks and first direct measurement of |Vtb|.

2007

The D0 Collaboration presents first evidence for the production of single top quarks at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider. Using a 0.9 fb^-1 dataset, we apply a multivariate analysis to separate signal from background and measure sigma(ppbar->tb+X,tqb+X) = 4.9 +- 1.4 pb. The probability to measure a cross section at this value or higher in the absence of signal is 0.035%, corresponding to a 3.4 standard deviation significance. We use the cross section measurement to directly determine the CKM matrix element that describes the Wtb coupling and find 0.68 < |Vtb| <= 1 at 95% C.L. within the standard model.

Search for a Fourth Generationt′Quark inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2011

We present a search for pair production of a fourth generation t' quark and its antiparticle, followed by their decays to a W boson and a jet, based on an integrated luminosity of 5.3/fb of proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV collected by the D0 Collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We set upper limits on the t't'bar production cross section that exclude at the 95% C.L. a t' quark that decays exclusively to W+jet with a mass below 285 GeV. We observe a small excess in the muon+jets channel which reduces the mass range excluded compared to the expected limit of 320 GeV in the absence of a signal.

Search for resonances in the mass distribution of jet pairs with one or two jets identified as b-jets in proton–proton collisions at s=13 TeV with th…

2016

Searches for high-mass resonances in the dijet invariant mass spectrum with one or two jets identified as $b$-jets are performed using an integrated luminosity of $3.2$ fb$^{-1}$ of proton--proton collisions with a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No evidence of anomalous phenomena is observed in the data, which are used to exclude, at 95% credibility level, excited $b^{*}$ quarks with masses from 1.1 TeV to 2.1 TeV and leptophobic $Z'$ bosons with masses from 1.1 TeV to 1.5 TeV. Contributions of a Gaussian signal shape with effective cross sections ranging from approximately 0.4 to 0.001 pb are also excluded in the mass…

STRANGE HADRONS BRIDGE BETWEEN QUARKS AND STARS

2007

Future experimental opportunities for the hypernuclear physics at GSI/FAIR are presented. The HYPHI experiment will investigate exotic hypernuclei which are produced by nuclear collision with stable heavy ion beams and rare isotope beams (RI-beams) at GSI. Thanks to the use of [Formula: see text] beams and the skilful combination of experimental techniques, copious production of double Λ hypernuclei is expected at the PANDA experiment which will enable high precision γ spectroscopy for the first time. Finally a novel method to explore the interaction of antibaryons in nuclei by baryon-antibaryon pair production in antiproton nucleus interactions is outlined.

Resummed jet rates for heavy quark production in e+e– annihilation

2004

Expressions for Sudakov form factors for heavy quarks are presented. They are used to construct resummed jet rates in electron-positron annihilation. Predictions are given for production of bottom quarks at LEP and top quarks at the Linear Collider.

Tomographic image of the proton

2016

We determine, based on the latest experimental Deep Virtual Compton Scattering experimental data, the dependence of the spatial size of the proton on the quark's longitudinal momentum. This results in a three-dimensional momentum-space image and tomography of the proton.

Gluon contribution to hadronicJψproduction

1978

Using the recent CERN and Fermilab measurements for J/ψ production by π±, K±, p and p beams we show, within the framework of QCD, that only a combined version of light quark qq→cc fusion and gluon gg→cc fusion mechanisms can account for the various total cross section beam ratios as well as for the observed xF‐distributions.
