Collective 2$^{+1}$ excitations in$^{206}$Po and$^{208,210}$Rn

In the present study, $B(E2; 2^{+}_{1}\rightarrow 0^{+}_{1})$ values have been measured in the 208,210Rn and 206Po nuclei through Coulomb excitation of re-accelerated radioactive beams in inverse kinematics at CERN-ISOLDE. These nuclei have been proposed to lie in, or at the boundary of the region where the seniority scheme should persist. However, contributions from collective excitations are likely to be present when moving away from the N=126 closed shell. Such an effect is confirmed by the observed increased collectivity of the $2^{+}_{1}\rightarrow 0^{+}_{1}$ transitions. Experiments with Exotic Atoms and Exotic Nuclei at GSI, Recent Developments and Future Prospects

Results and new developments with exotic atoms and exotic nuclei are presented from recent experiments at GSI. The proposed European inflight facility at GSI will open up new fields of outstanding research and will simultaneously access unknown regions of nuclei with new properties. A new generation of precision experiments will be performed with stored exotic nuclei, whereby nuclear reactions with an internal target and electron scattering in a small electron-ion collider will be a great challenge.

Separation of theH2(e,e’p) structure functions up to 0.9 GeV/cmomentum transfer

Longitudinal, transverse, and longitudinal-transverse structure functions for the $^{2}\mathrm{H}$(e,e'p) reaction have been determined. Measurements of the cross sections were made in-plane in nearly quasielastic kinematics spanning momentum transfers between 200 and 670 MeV/c and recoil momenta between 0 and 150 MeV/c. In addition, cross sections at momentum transfers above 800 MeV/c were measured at backward scattering angles in aligned kinematics where the response is predominantly transverse. First Exploration of Neutron Shell Structure below Lead and beyond N=126

The nuclei below lead but with more than 126 neutrons are crucial to an understanding of the astrophysical r process in producing nuclei heavier than A∼190. Despite their importance, the structure and properties of these nuclei remain experimentally untested as they are difficult to produce in nuclear reactions with stable beams. In a first exploration of the shell structure of this region, neutron excitations in ^{207}Hg have been probed using the neutron-adding (d,p) reaction in inverse kinematics. Existence and dynamics of pairs of temporal cavity solitons weakly-bound through kelly sidebands in a passive optical fiber resonator

We report experimental observations of weaklybound states of temporal cavity solitons, with separations of 10 soliton widths and beyond, in a 100-m single mode fiber cavity. Bound state dynamics has been studied using the real time dispersive Fourier transform technique for roundtrip-byroundtrip measurements. Temporal oscillations in the cavity soliton background, associated with the presence of Kelly sidebands, have been identified as the binding mechanism.

Effect of the tilt on the gyrotron operation

The effect of the tilt of the electron beam axis on the gyrotron operation is investigated. It is commonly accepted that the tilt deteriorates the efficiency of cylindrical cavity gyrotrons. Our study showed that this deterioration can be mitigated by a proper displacement of the electron beam axis at the entrance. Also, in some cases, when the aftercavity interaction lowers the gyrotron efficiency, the tilt can reduce this interaction and, therefore, slightly increase the efficiency.

Search for Large Extra Spatial Dimensions in the Dielectron and Diphoton Channels inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96  TeV

We report on a search for large extra spatial dimensions in the dielectron and diphoton channels using a data sample of 1.05 \invfb of \ppb collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The invariant mass spectrum of the data agrees well with the prediction of the standard model. We find 95% C.L. lower limits on the effective Planck scale between 2.1 and 1.3 TeV for 2 to 7 extra dimensions.
