Real-time time-dependent density functional theory implementation of electronic circular dichroism applied to nanoscale metal–organic clusters
2020
| openaire: EC/H2020/838996/EU//RealNanoPlasmon Electronic circular dichroism (ECD) is a powerful spectroscopy method for investigating chiral properties at the molecular level. ECD calculations with the commonly used linear-response time-dependent density functional theory (LR-TDDFT) framework can be prohibitively costly for large systems. To alleviate this problem, we present here an ECD implementation within the projector augmented-wave method in a real-time-propagation TDDFT framework in the open-source GPAW code. Our implementation supports both local atomic basis sets and real-space finite-difference representations of wave functions. We benchmark our implementation against an existin…
NMR chemical shift computations at second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory using gauge-including atomic orbitals and Cholesky-decomposed two-…
2021
We report on a formulation and implementation of a scheme to compute NMR shieldings at second-order Moller-Plesset (MP2) perturbation theory using gauge-including atomic orbitals (GIAOs) to ensure gauge-origin independence and Cholesky decomposition (CD) to handle unperturbed as well as perturbed two-electron integrals. We investigate the accuracy of the CD for the derivatives of the two-electron integrals with respect to an external magnetic field as well as for the computed NMR shieldings, before we illustrate the applicability of our CD based GIAO-MP2 scheme in calculations involving up to about one hundred atoms and more than one thousand basis functions.
The kinetic MC modelling of reversible pattern formation in initial stages of thin metallic film growth on crystalline substrates
2003
Abstract The results of kinetic MC simulations of the reversible pattern formation during the adsorption of mobile metal atoms on crystalline substrates are discussed. Pattern formation, simulated for submonolayer metal coverage, is characterized in terms of the joint correlation functions for a spatial distribution of adsorbed atoms. A wide range of situations, from the almost irreversible to strongly reversible regimes, is simulated. We demonstrate that the patterns obtained are defined by a key dimensionless parameter: the ratio of the mutual attraction energy between atoms to the substrate temperature. Our ab initio calculations for the nearest Ag–Ag adsorbate atom interaction on an MgO…
Ab initio calculations on the molecular structure of fluorocyanopolyynes
1998
Abstract The molecular structure of the first three members of the fluorocyanopolyynes was studied by ab initio Hartree-Fock calculations with a polarized double zeta basis set and at MP2 level with the same basis set. Alternating triple and single bonds were found; a theoretical estimate of rotational constants and dipole moments was performed and a comparison with the available experimental data was made. An analysis of the theoretical vibrational frequencies of the title compounds was carried out.
An ab initio CI study on the rotational barrier of the allyl anion
1986
All-electron and pseudopotential non-empirical calculations have been performed on C 2v and C s (syn, anti) allyl anion conformations. Using a double-zeta valence-shell basis set within the Epstein-Nesbet definition of the unperturbed Hamiltonian, a value about 19 kcal/mol is found for the barrier to rotation of the allyl anion. This value is the theoretical value obtained with greater accuracy, and the lowest one for the rotational barrier.
Charged oxygen interstitials in corundum: first principles simulations
2016
Combining supercell models and hybrid B3PW exchange-correlation functionals, ab initio simulations on quasi-stable configurations of interstitial ions in α-Al2O3 (corundum) crystals and possible migration trajectories have been modelled. We have studied crystalline distortion around migrating including interatomic distances and the effective atomic charges, as well as redistributions of the electronic density. Unlike neutral interstitial atom Oi studied by us previously, migrating ion does not form dumbbells with the nearest regular oxygen ions, due to the strong Coulomb interaction with the nearest cations as well as stronger repulsion between and adjacent regular ions. We have also estima…
Geometric Structure and Torsional Potential of Biisothianaphthene. A Comparative DFT and ab Initio Study
1997
We present a study of the torsional potential of biisothianaphthene and compare it to that of bithiophene. The calculations are performed at the ab initio and semiempirical Hartree−Fock (HF), ab initio post-Hartree−Fock, and density functional theory (DFT) levels. Our study has two major aims: (i) on the physico-chemical side, to asses the optimal conformation of biisothianaphthene and evaluate the rotational barriers toward coplanar structures and (ii) on the methodological side, to asses the usefulness of DFT approaches. In contrast to previous estimates, the torsional potential of biisothianaphthene is found to differ markedly from that of bithiophene. For biisothianaphthene, strongly r…
Ab initio study of the electronic and atomic structure of the wolframite-type ZnWO4
2009
Abstract Ab initio quantum chemistry calculations of the structural and electronic properties of monoclinic wolframite-type ZnWO 4 crystal have been performed within the periodic linear combination of atomic orbitals (LCAO) method using six different Hamiltonians, based on density functional theory (DFT) and hybrid Hartree-Fock-DFT theory. The obtained results for optimized structural parameters, band gap and partial density of states are compared with available experimental data, and the best agreement is observed for hybrid Hamiltonians. The calculations show that zinc tungstate is a wide band gap material, with the direct gap about 4.6 eV, whose valence band has largely O 2p character, w…
Ab initio modelling of Y-O cluster formation in γ-Fe lattice
2016
Ab initio modelling of Y and O impurity atoms as well as VFe vacancies in the fcc-Fe lattice is performed in order to calculate the interactions between these defects, which are important for understanding of nanoparticles’ formation within the oxide dispersed strengthened steels. Large scale parallel calculations based on plane-wave method realised in VASP computer code show that VFe vacancies considerably influence the binding between the impurity atoms. In this study, we present the results of performed calculations providing the detailed information about the binding energies between the defects, the changes of their effective charges as well as displacements of the substitute atoms rel…
Quantum chemical calculations of the electron center diffusion in MgO crystals
1996
Large-scale quantum chemical simulations of the diffusion hops of empty cation and anion vacancies, as well as F + and F centers in MgO crystals have been done. The atomic configurations for 224-site cluster and charge density distribution are analyzed for the equilibrium and saddle-point configurations during the defect hops. The relevant activation energy for diffusion increases monotonically in the series V a → F + → F center.
