Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) was first developed for biophysical studies in analogy with photon scattering correlation spectroscopy. Although it is mainly devoted to the study of freely diffusing particles, FCS is actually able to discern between different kinds of motions, such as diffusion, anomalous diffusion, or drift motions. The frontier application of FCS nowadays is in medical studies both within cells and on the cell membranes, and in the investigation of single molecules in solid matrices. Powder metallurgy processing and deformation characteristics of bulk multimodal nickel

cited By 7; International audience; Spark plasma sintering was used to process bulk nickel samples from a blend of three powder types. The resulting multimodal microstructure was made of coarse (average size ∼ 135 μm) spherical microcrystalline entities (the core) surrounded by a fine-grained matrix (average grain size ∼ 1.5 μm) or a thick rim (the shell) distinguishable from the matrix. Tensile tests revealed yield strength of ∼ 470 MPa that was accompanied by limited ductility (∼ 2.8% plastic strain). Femtosecond digital lensless holographic microscopy to image biological samples

The use of femtosecond laser radiation in digital lensless holographic microscopy (DLHM) to image biological samples is presented. A mode-locked Ti:Sa laser that emits ultrashort pulses of 12 fs intensity FWHM, with 800 nm mean wavelength, at 75 MHz repetition rate is used as a light source. For comparison purposes, the light from a light-emitting diode is also used. A section of the head of a drosophila melanogaster fly is studied with both light sources. The experimental results show very different effects of the pinhole size on the spatial resolution with DLHM. Unaware phenomena on the field of the DLHM are analyzed.

In poetry, as well as in a good part of prose works, the rhythm of words is the music that governs reason and emotion. Literature occupies an important place in my creation. In this article I describe the different procedures in which I configure its presence in my music and the main themes in four of my works: Envoi, Como el viento, Maya and Transmutación.

Latviešu valodā. Bakalaura darbā ir apkopota literatūra par iekštelpu putekļiem un metāliskajiem elementiem to sastāvā, kā arī to ietekmi uz cilvēka veselību. Apskatītas putekļu paraugu ņemšanas un analīzes metodes. Darbā eksperimentāli ir veikta 3 dažādu dzīvojamo vietu putekļu metālisko elementu satura analīze. Darba gaitā no dzīvojamām telpām tika ievākti putekļu paraugi, kuros metālisko elementu saturu noteica ar induktīvi saistītās plazmas masspektrometriju.
Sex Differences in Frail Older Adults with Foot Pain in a Spanish Population: An Observational Study

Frailty is a condition that can increase the risk of falls. In addition, foot pain can influence older adults and affect their frail condition. The main objective was to measure the frailty degree in older adults in a Spanish population with foot pain from moderate to severe. Method: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study. A sample of people older than 60 years (n = 52), including 26 males and 26 females, were recruited, and frailty disability was measured using the 5-Frailty scale and the Edmonton Frailty scale (EFS).
