An enhanced method for the determination of organic acids in several fruit juices by capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) with direct UV-Vis detection has been developed in this work. First, a study with simulated real juice samples was done to find the best separation conditions. Next, several commercial fruit juices were analyzed, and the organic acid contents were quantified in less than 12 min using a poly(vinyl alcohol)-coated fused-silica 'bubble cell' capillary. Opioids are drugs used in medicine for pain control. In this paper, retention-pharmacokinetics and retention-pharmacodynamics relationships of opioids are proposed and statistically validated. These models are based on the compound retention in the biopartitioning micellar chromatography system (BMC), a new methodology which has successfully been used to develop QRAR models for many other families of compounds. Abstract The profiles of the 253.7 nm spectral line, emitted from the capillary argon–mercury isotope high-frequency electrodeless discharge, are measured by means of a pressure-scanned Fabry–Perot spectrometer. OBJECTIVE Ramsay Hunt syndrome (RHS) and Bell palsy (BP) are typically known as facial nerve motor syndromes and are primarily unilateral. The aim of this study was to challenge this assertion, because both conditions are also known to be associated with viruses that typically affect several nerves. SELF SIMILARITY IN SWELLING SYSTEMS: FRACTAL PROPERTIES OF PEAT

Sphagnum peat gives an example of a swelling system with a self-similar structure in sufficiently wide range of scales. The surface fractal dimension, dfs, has been calculated by means of thermodynamic method on the basis of water adsorption and capillary equilibrium measurements. This method makes possible the exploration of the self-similarity in the scale range over at least 4 decimal orders of magnitude from 1 nm to 10 μm. In a sample explored, two ranges of fractality have been observed: dfs ≈ 2.55 in the range 1.5–80 nm and dfs ≈ 2.42 in the range 0.25–9 µm.

Human papillomavirus type 33 (HPV33) is associated with malignant tumors of the cervix. In an attempt to develop immunological probes for HPV33 infections, antisera against various bacterial fusion proteins carrying sequences of the minor capsid protein encoded by L2 were raised in animals. Antigenic determinants on the HPV33 L2 protein were identified by using truncated fusion proteins and were classified as type specific or cross-reactive with respect to HPV1, -8, -11, -16, and -18. Cross-reactive epitopes map to amino acids 98 to 107 or to amino acids 102 to 112 and 107 to 117, respectively, depending on the fusion protein used for immunization. Background: Incidence rates of thyroid cancer (TC) increased in several countries during the last 30 years, while mortality rates remained unchanged, raising important questions for treatment and follow-up of TC patients.
