Determination of glyphosate in water samples with the combination of cation-exchange chromatography and capillary electrophoresis

2003

An analytical method for determination of pesticide Glyphosate in water as a combination of cation-exchange chromatography and capillary electrophoresis is presented. Pure water was spiked with Glyphosate at concentrations 0.1, 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mM and percolated through a strong cation-exchange column packed with Dowex 50WX4-400 resin in its H+ form. The extract was further analyzed by capillary electrophoresis in indirect detection mode. The calibration curve for the pesticide in the range 0.1–2.5 mM was linear and with high degree of reproducibility. The obtained recoveries for all the studied concentrations amount 85%. Afterwards, the possibility to determine Glyphosate at the concentrati…

Hard Competencies Satisfaction Levels for Software Engineers: A Unified Framework

2019

Software engineer’s/developer’s competency has long been established as a key pillar for the development of software. Nevertheless, the satisfaction levels derived from using a competency needs more investigation. The aim of this paper is to propose a framework for identifying hard competencies and their satisfaction levels. The paper contributes to the software engineering competency research by highlighting the satisfaction levels of hard competence for the benefit of the educators (academia), software engineers and users of software competence (practitioner). peerReviewed

Hoitoalan esimiesten keinot ja haasteet epätyypillistä työaikaa tekevien alaistensa hyvinvoinnin edistämisessä

2016

TIIVISTELMÄ Miika Klinga & Ville Leskinen (2016). Hoitoalan esimiesten keinot ja haasteet epätyypillistä työaikaa tekevien alaistensa hyvinvoinnin edistämisessä. Terveystieteiden laitos, Jyväskylän yliopisto, terveyskasvatuksen pro gradu-tutkielma, 63 s., 4 liitettä. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää kahdessa eri sairaalaorganisaatiossa työskentelevien hoitoalan esimiesten kokemuksia ja näkemyksiä epätyypillisen työajan asettamista haasteista ja keinoista, joita heillä on käytössään vuorotyötä tekevien alaistensa hyvinvoinnin edistämisessä. Lisäksi tutkittiin millaisia uusia keinoja esimiehet haluaisivat ottaa käyttöönsä alaistensa hyvinvointia edistämään. Tutkimus toteutettiin laadul…

POTENTIAL IMPACT OF A NONAVALENT VACCINE ON HPV RELATED LOW-AND HIGH-GRADE CERVICAL INTRAEPITHELIAL LESIONS

2016

Introduction: Demonstration of the role of persistent infection, with high-risk (HR) human papillomaviruses (HPV) as the causal agent of cervical cancer made the development of first and second generation prophylactic vaccines. Bivalent and quadrivalent HPV vaccines are at the moment available in Europe. In 2014 is licensing a nonavalent HPV vaccine against HPV types: 6/11/16/18/31/33/45/52/58. The aim of our study was to evaluate the potential impact on HPV infection and related low- and high-grade cervical lesions (LSIL, HSIL) of the candidate nonavalent HPV vaccine, compared to the impact of the quadrivalent, in a female population living in Sicily. Materials and Methods: HPV genotypes w…

Mental toughness in elite and sub-elite female soccer players

2017

Mental toughness (MT) is seen as an important psychological factor in the athletic success of elite athletes. Research on the subject has usually concerned male athletes. Our purpose was to investigate whether there are differences in mental toughness between female players who compete in an elite league and those who play at lower levels. In total, 298 female soccer players (M = 20.7 years, SD = 3.7 years) from three levels of Norwegian soccer responded to the Sports Mental Toughness Questionnaire. The MT Constancy subscale was removed from analysis due to an unacceptable Cronbach alpha (0.57). The results revealed that elite league players had significantly higher MT Global scores than th…

Photografted methacrylate-based monolithic columns coated with cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) for chiral separation in CEC

2018

A chiral capillary monolithic column for enantiomer separation in capillary electrochromatography was prepared by coating cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) on porous glycidyl methacrylate-co-ethylene dimethacrylate monolith in capillary format grafted with chains of [2(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride. The surface modification of the monolith by the photografting of [2(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride monomer as well as the coating conditions of cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) onto the grafted monolithic scaffold were optimized to obtain a stable and reproducible chiral stationary phase for capillary electrochromatography. The effect o…

The carabid Pterostichus melanarius uses chemical cues for opportunistic predation and saprophagy but not for finding healthy prey

2017

The sentinel prey method can quantify predation pressure in various habitats. Real prey is assumed to more realistically mimic the predator experience but the predator can rarely be identified. Artificial prey made of plasticine may lack real chemical cues, but provides information about predator identity. However, the relationship between predation pressure registered by artificial versus real prey is not clear. We tested the relative attractiveness of artificial caterpillars, and intact, wounded, or dead larvae of the cabbage moth (Mamestra brassicae) for the carabid predator Pterostichus melanarius Illiger (Coleoptera: Carabidae). P. melanarius adults were attracted to dead caterpillars …

Economic analysis of the international cooperation to face global environmental problems

2013

Because of the doubts about the effectiveness of the Kyoto Protocol, several scholars have asked whether other types of agreements can be designed to achieve large reductions of GHG emissions. Designing a profitable and stable international environmental agreement (IEA) that deals with the shortcomings of Kyoto-type agreement is the main motivation of this work. One idea would be to focus on technology improvements in order to reduce abatement costs, as this might increase a country's willingness to undertake significant emission reductions. For example, it could be beneficial to supplement a Kyoto-type agreement with technology elements if technological development depends not only on a co…

Appropriate technology in a Solovian nonlinear growth model

2007

We propose a Solovian growth model with a convex-concave production function and international technological spillovers. We test the empirical implications of the model, analysing the effects of the productivity slowdown that followed the oil shocks of the 1970s. We argue that this slowdown, altering the world income distribution, affected the pattern of international technological spillovers, taking the poorest countries further away from the technological leaders, and therefore unable to exploit their technologies. The result is the emergence of a poverty trap for low-income countries.

Työntekijä, puoliso ja isä 24/7 : epätyypillistä työaikaa tekevien isien moniroolisuus

2017

TIIVISTELMÄ Hirvonen, Salla. 2017. Työntekijä, puoliso ja isä 24/7: Epätyypillistä työaikaa tekevien isien moniroolisuus. Kasvatustieteen pro gradu -tutkielma. Jyväskylän yliopisto. Kasvatustieteiden laitos. 95 sivua.
