Chemical Composition of the Essential Oils ofPistacia atlanticaDesf.
2005
The chemical composition of the three essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation of the resin, leaves and fruits of Pistacia atlantica Desf. (Anacardiaceae) was studied by GC and GC/MS. Monoterpene hydrocarbons constituted the main chemical group in the resin oil, with α-pinene (42.9%) and β-pinene (13.2%) as the major components. Oil of the fruits contained high amounts of oxygenated monoterpenes, with bornyl acetate (21.5%) as the major component, while oxygenated monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes were found to predominate in the oil of leaves among which terpinen-4-ol (21.7%) and elemol (20.0%) were the most abundant components.
The Effect of Plant Water Status on the Chemical Composition of Pistachio Nuts (Pistacia vera L. Cultivar Bianca)
2020
Pistachio nuts are worldwide appreciated for their chemical and organoleptic profiles. There are several studies on the influence of irrigation on pistachio productivity, whereas there are little available data on the influence on nut quality. In this study we characterized some qualitative traits of pistachio nuts cultivar Bianca in Mediterranean environment and how plant water status affected them. Water status had a positive and significant influence on the chlorophylls content, nuts from less stressed trees showed higher values of chlorophyll a (14.7 mg/100 g) and b (21.1 mg/100 g) compared than more stressed trees (9.3 and 11.5 mg/100 g for a and b, respectively). Solid phase microextr…
On the anti-inflammatory and anti-phospholipase A2 activity of extracts from lanostane-rich species
2000
Abstract We have studied extracts from three species rich in lanostane triterpenes for their activity against different in vivo models of inflammation induced by TPA, EPP and PLA2. The inhibitory effect against PLA2 in vitro was also studied. When the Poria cocos extract was tested against PLA2-induced mouse paw edema, it was active by the oral and parenteral routes. Its effect was greater in both magnitude and duration than that of Pistacia terebinthus and Ganoderma lucidum extracts. P. terebinthus was effective against chronic and acute inflammation, and according to a preliminary chromatographic analysis, its seems to be a good source of lanostane anti-inflammatory agents. G. lucidum was…
Sicilian pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) nut inhibits expression and release of inflammatory mediators and reverts the increase of paracellular permeabi…
2014
Background Dietary approaches to control inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) may include proanthocyanidin-rich foods. Our previous research showed that a hydrophilic extract from Sicilian pistachio nut (HPE) contains sub- stantial amounts of proanthocyanidins and possesses anti- inflammatory activities. Purpose We studied the effects of HPE and of its poly- meric proanthocyanidin fraction (PPF) in a cell model that simulated some conditions of IBD, consisting of interleukin (IL)-1b-stimulated Caco-2 cells. Methods HPE was prepared by Pistacia vera L. nuts, and PPF was isolated from HPE by adsorbance chromatogra- phy. Proanthocyanidins were quantified as anthocyanidins after acidic hydrolysis.…
