A typology of cases to teach the model of evolution by natural selection

2018

Jahrhunderts

1982

The essay examines the natural law economics of the eighteenth century and the evolutionist economics of the nineteenth century by focusing on their methods for achieving a common, nebulously articulated goal: individual fulfillment and the happiness and welfare of mankind in a free, harmoniously ordered society. Illustrating the theoretical and, in practice, effective theories derived from natural law are cammeralism, the economic philosophy of the Physiocrats, and economic liberalism. It is emphasized that these theories do not represent a linear sequence of ideas in which one set of ideas „triumphed” over a preceding one. They show instead three different consequences reflecting the inte…

Composition as identity and plural Cantor's theorem

2016

In this paper, I argue that the thesis of Composition as Identity blocks the plural version of Cantor’s Theorem, and that this in turn has implications for our use of Cantor’s theorem in metaphysics. As an example, I show how this result blocks a recent argument by Hawthorne and Uzquiano, and might be turned around to become an abductive argument for Composition as Identity

Una propuesta sobre enseñanza de la relatividad en el bachillerato como motivación para el aprendizaje de la física

2007

Relativity is a very important part of modern physics. In this paper we analyze the teaching and learning of the theory of relativity in secondary education and we show some reasoned arguments against traditional methods to teach it. Finally, a didactic proposal for the teaching of relativity is presented; it comes as a conclusion that it is possible a suitable teaching of the principles of relative which should bring into the students a change in attitude, concepts and methodology.

THE LEARNING AND TEACHING OF THE CONCEPTS ‘AMOUNT OF SUBSTANCE’ AND ‘MOLE’: A REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE

2002

The importance of the concepts of ’amount of substance’ and ’mole’ is supported by the abundance in the last decade of research papers on the problem of the teaching and learning of these concepts. The present study attempts a review of the relevant bibliography, including recent investigations on both the difficulties of learning these concepts and the didactic alternatives that are provided from different perspectives. The literature reviewed shows that students have great difficulty in handling the above concepts. In addition, a clear discrepancy exists between what is assumed as correct by the scientific community and the thinking of educators. Finally, strategies for the teaching of th…

Hückel’s Efforts to Disseminate His Theory and Its Reception

2009

Shortly after giving his talk in autumn 1934 at the International Conference on Physics in London, Huckel sought to introduce the results of his research on unsaturated and aromatic compounds elsewhere in Europe. On April 30, 1935 Huckel delivered a talk in French before the Societe de Physique in Paris. The title he chose was: “Aromatic and unsaturated compounds. Theoretical inquiry into their constitution and properties.”Describing his own efforts as clearly as he could, he also discussed his points of criticism against Pauling’s theoretical and mathematical approach. How his Parisian audience responded seems not to have come down to posterity. Huckel had been invited to give a series of …

Liberalism, Governmentality and Counter-Conduct; An Introduction to Foucauldian Analytics of Liberal Civil Society Notions

2015

This article gives an analysis of Foucault’s studies of civil society and the various liberalist critiques of government. It follows from Foucault’s genealogical approach that “civil society” does not in itself possess any form of transcendental existence; its historical reality must be seen as the result of the productive nature of the power-knowledge-matrices. Foucault emphasizes that modern governmentality—and more specifically the procedures he names “the conduct of conduct”—is not exercised through coercive power and domination, but is dependent on the freedom and activeness of individuals and groups of society. Civil society is thus analyzed as fundamentally ambivalent: on the one han…

Pedagogika transgresyjna w wychowaniu przedszkolnym

2018

The 21st century is characterized by the accelerating pace of life as well as civilization, cultural and technological changes. Therefore, it requires a new view on the future human being. Education from preschool to adulthood plays a crucial role in this regard. Contemporary preschool pedagogy is searching for innovative solutions in the field of unleashing genetic potential and development of the multidimensional personality. One of the new ideas is pedagogy of transgression, consisting in exceeding one’s own limitations through activity, experience, self-reliance and responsibility. The paper shows theoretical foundations of transgression, factors which unleash child’s capabilities, orga…

Aspectos convergentes del pensamiento crítico y las cuestiones sociocientíficas

2014

In this work, we present an analysis of the conceptualization of the critical thought, based on references from the Philosophy and Didactics of science, in a group of university students. We found that interpretations made by the participants in front of this kind of thought involve important aspects of socio-scientific questions (SCQ), related to the questioning of information, multidimensionality of science and decision making. Keywords. critical thought, socio-scientific questions, science education issues. En este artículo se presenta un análisis de la conceptualización del pensamiento crítico, a partir de referentes de la filosofía y de la didáctica de las ciencias, en un grupo de estu…
