A Planar Generator for a Wave Energy Converter

This article presents a permanent magnet planar translational generator which is able to exploit multiple modes of sea wave energy extraction. Linear electrical generators have recently been studied for the exploitation of sea wave energy, but, to the best of our knowledge, no synchronous planar translational generator has been proposed. In this article, to maximize the energy extraction, we have considered all the potential modes of motion due to wave excitation and included them within the mathematical model of the proposed system. Planar Benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]dithiophene Derivatives Decorated with Nitronyl and Imino Nitroxides

Four weakly antiferromagnetic interacting biradicals of benzo[1,2- b:4,5- b']dithiophene (BDT) and BDT extended with two thiophenes (BDTTh2) linked with nitronyl and imino nitroxides (NN and IN) as BDT-NN, BDT-IN, BDTTh2-NN, and BDTTh2-IN were designed, synthesized, and characterized. Short intermolecular π-π distances were found (3.42 A) for BDT-NN, whereas larger ones were found for BDT-IN (3.54 A) and BDTTh2-NN (3.67 A), respectively. Intramolecular magnetic interaction ( Jintra,exp/ kB) of BDT-NN (-26 K) is much larger than for BDT-IN (-5.3 K), while it is reduced for the dithiophene-extended molecule BDTTh2-NN (-2.3 K). High-resolution stimulated Raman spectra of13C2H4 in the regions of the ν2 and ν3 Raman active modes have been recorded at two temperatures (145 and 296 K) based on the quasi continuous-wave (cw) stimulated Raman spectrometer at Instituto de Estructura de la Materia IEM-CSIC in Madrid. AbstractIce cores (∼4 m long) obtained from areas of different surface velocities near the terminus of Sørsdal Glacier, East Antarctica, have been investigated using two versions of a fabric analyser (G50). In sections parallel to the flow plane, the microstructure is typically interlocking with elongate grains that parallel air-bubble elongation, X, reflecting their development in an earlier ductile regime. The c-axis fabric patterns vary with respect to X and vary from single–double maxima to asymmetric small-circle girdles oblique to the planar foliation, which can be attributed to a simple shear regime. Flexible joint robots, in particularly those which are equipped with harmonic-drive gears, can feature elasticities with hysteresis. Under heavy loads and large joint torques the hysteresis lost motion can lead to significant errors of tracking and positioning of the robotic links. In this paper, two approaches for compensating the nonlinear joint torsion with hysteresis are described and compared with each other. Modular Contact-Free Conveyors for Handling Planar Fragile Objects

Recent studies show that the handling of thin wafers in the photovoltaic industry can lead to unacceptable yields due to cell scratching and breaking. This paper presents the concept and design of a novel modular conveyor that is intended for handling planar fragile objects at a high speed without contact. Each element of the conveyor is a square block that is able to generate tilted air jets that lift and push the object in a single direction. Various handling functions can thus be achieved by the assembly of several blocks. Dynamic Modeling of Planar Multi-Link Flexible Manipulators

A closed-form dynamic model of the planar multi-link flexible manipulator is presented. The assumed modes method is used with the Lagrangian formulation to obtain the dynamic equations of motion. Explicit equations of motion are derived for a three-link case assuming two modes of vibration for each link. The eigenvalue problem associated with the mass boundary conditions, which changes with the robot configuration and payload, is discussed. The time-domain simulation results and frequency-domain analysis of the dynamic model are presented to show the validity of the theoretical derivation.
Improved electroless platinum contacts on CdZnTe X- and γ-rays detectors

AbstractPlatinum is a promising candidate for the realization of blocking electrical contacts on cadmium-zinc-telluride (CdZnTe or CZT) radiation detectors. However, the poor mechanical adhesion of this metal often shortens the lifetime of the final device. In this work, a simple and effective procedure to obtain robust platinum contacts by electroless deposition is presented. Microscopical analysis revealed the final thickness and composition of the contact layer and its adhesion to the bulk crystal.
