SYNOPSIS. The Extraxial/Axial Theory (EAT) of echinoderm skeletal homologies describes two major body wall types: axial and extraxial. The latter is subdivided into perforate and imperforate regions. Each of the regions has a distinctly different source in early larval development. Axial skeleton originates in the rudiment, and develops in association with the pentaradially arranged hydrocoel according to specific ontogenetic principles. A new automatic experimental system was designed to improve the accuracy of multidirectional thermal infrared measurements. Space-VLBI phase-reference mapping and astrometry

We present 5 GHz space-VLBI observations of the quasar pair B1342+662/B1342+663 that demonstrate the feasibility of phase-reference techniques using an antenna in space. The space-based data were taken by the satellite HALCA, of the space-VLBI mission VSOP. From residual (referenced) phases we derive an upper bound of 10 meters to the uncertainty of the spacecraft orbit reconstruction. An analysis of the phase-reference maps of the sources additionally suggests that the above mentioned uncertaintyis likely not larger than 3 meters. With errors of this magnitude, HALCA is a useful tool for astrometric studies of close pairs of radio sources.

Abstract Interpreting and simulating hydrological processes need a large number of field saturated soil hydraulic conductivity, Kfs , data that should be collected with simple and rapid field experiments. A Simplified method based on a Beerkan Infiltration run (SBI method) was recently developed and tested successfully on Burundian soils. With the SBI method, a cylinder is inserted to a short depth into the soil and the infiltration time of a few small volumes of water repeatedly applied at the surface of the confined soil is measured. In this article, we present a multipolarimetric estimation approach for two model-based vegetation structure parameters (shape A and orientation distribution ψ of the main canopy elements). The approach is based on a reduced observation set of three incoherent (no phase information) polarimetric backscatter intensities (|S HH | 2 , |S HV | 2 , and |S VV | 2 ) combined with a two-parameter (A P and ψ) discrete scatterer model of vegetation. Despite its many advantages, ballasted track needs frequent maintenance to ensure an adequate quality of service. However, tamping, traditionally used to correct geometry, causes ballast degradation and loosening of the already compacted ballast layer, which quickly returns the track to its pre-maintenance position. Due to an error in applying the passive evolution to transform Mg (z = 0) magnitudes to Mg (z = 0.3), the values of the magnitude limits for the samples DR7-LRG and DR7-LRG-VL quoted in Table 1 were not correct. The corrected Table 1 is appended below. Note that although the redshift limits of the sample DR7-LRG are the same as in Eisenstein et al. (2005), the magnitude limits are therefore slightly shifted (see Table 1). Once this fact is considered, figures and results are completely unaffected. We are very grateful to Eyal Kazin for pointing out the error.
