Adaptation of Fusarium oxysporum and Fusarium dimerum to the specific aquatic environment provided by the water systems of hospitals.

2015

SPE IPM MERS EA; International audience; Members of the Fusarium group were recently detected in water distribution systems of several hospitals in the world. An epidemiological investigation was conducted over 2 years in hospital buildings in Dijon and Nancy (France) and in non-hospital buildings in Dijon. The fungi were detected only within the water distribution systems of the hospital buildings and also, but at very low concentrations, in the urban water network of Nancy. All fungi were identified as Fusarium oxysporum species complex (FOSC) and Fusarium dimerum species complex (FDSC) by sequencing part of the translation elongation factor 1- alpha (TEF-1a) gene. Very low diversity was …

Thermo-mechanical analysis of irradiation swelling and design optimization of the IFMIF target assembly with bayonet backplate

2017

Abstract The availability of a high flux neutron source for testing candidate materials under irradiation conditions, which will be typically encountered in future fusion power reactors (ITER, DEMO, FPR), is a fundamental step towards the development of fusion energy. To this purpose, the International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility (IFMIF) represents the reference option to provide the fusion community with a DEMO-relevant neutron source capable of irradiating samples at a damage rate of up to 20 dpa/fpy (in steel) in a volume of 0.5 l. In the framework of the engineering design activities of IFMIF, ENEA is committed in the design of the lithium target assembly (TA) with removable (…

GABA transporters control GABAergic neurotransmission in the mouse subplate.

2015

The subplate is a transient layer between the cortical plate and intermediate zone in the developing cortex. Thalamo-cortical axons form temporary synapses on subplate neurons (SPns) before invading the cortical plate. Neuronal activity within the subplate is of critical importance for the development of neocortical circuits and architecture. Although both glutamatergic and GABAergic inputs on SPns were reported, short-term plasticity of GABAergic transmission has not been investigated yet. GABAergic postsynaptic currents (GPSCs) were recorded from SPns in coronal neocortical slices prepared from postnatal day 3-4 mice using whole-cell patch-clamp technique. Evoked GPSCs (eGPSCs) elicited b…

The composition of fluids stored in the central Mexican lithospheric mantle: Inferences from noble gases and CO2 in mantle xenoliths

2021

We present the first isotopic (noble gases and CO2) characterization of fluid inclusions coupled to Raman microspectroscopy analyses in mantle xenoliths from Central Mexico, a geodynamically complex area where the Basin and Range extension was superimposed on the Farallon subduction (terminated at 28 Ma). To characterize the isotopic signature of the Central Mexican lithospheric mantle, we focus on fluid inclusions entrapped in mantle xenoliths found in deposits of the Joya Honda maar (JH), a Quaternary monogenetic volcano belonging to the Ventura Espiritu Santo Volcanic Field (VESVF) in the state of San Luis Potosí (central Mexico). Thirteen ultramafic plagioclase-free xenoliths were selec…

Synthesis of Silver Gallium Selenide (AgGaSe2) Nanotubes and Nanowires by Template-Based Electrodeposition

2020

In this work, a systematic investigation of the different parameters that control the electrodeposition processes was carried out at the aim to synthetizing AgGaSe₂ nanostructures. We found that pH is a key parameter to control both the morphology and composition of the nanostructures. Low pH favours mainly the formation of Ag2Se nanotubes with a scarce mechanical stability, while multi-phase nanowires well anchored to the substrate were obtained at higher pH. We also found that it was necessary to increase dramatically the concentration of the gallium precursor into the deposition bath in order to obtain AgGaSe₂ owing to lower redox potential of the Ga3+/Ga couple than Ag2+/Ag and Se4+/Se.…

Constraining lithospheric flow.

2016

The motion of Earth's tectonic plates—the lithosphere—is driven by the subduction of relatively cold and dense oceanic plates into the mantle. The resulting forces drive the motions of continental plates, but the manner in which this happens depends on the effective viscosities of the lithosphere and mantle. On page 1515 of this issue, Liu and Hasterok ( 1 ) discuss a novel method of constraining viscosities of the lithosphere from geophysical data.

β1-Integrin Cytoplasmic Subdomains Involved in Dominant Negative Function

1998

The beta1-integrin cytoplasmic domain consists of a membrane proximal subdomain common to the four known isoforms ("common" region) and a distal subdomain specific for each isoform ("variable" region). To investigate in detail the role of these subdomains in integrin-dependent cellular functions, we used beta1A and beta1B isoforms as well as four mutants lacking the entire cytoplasmic domain (beta1TR), the variable region (beta1COM), or the common region (beta1 deltaCOM-B and beta1 deltaCOM-A). By expressing these constructs in Chinese hamster ovary and beta1 integrin-deficient GD25 cells (Wennerberg et al., J Cell Biol 132, 227-238, 1996), we show that beta1B, beta1COM, beta1 deltaCOM-B, a…

Aromatic N-oxide templates open inclusion and dimeric capsular assemblies with methylresorcinarene

2015

C2-2-methylresorcinarene forms host–guest complexes with pyridine N-oxide and quinoline N-oxide. In solution the NMR studies support the 1 : 1 host–guest complexes while in the solid state, the single crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal dimeric capsule-like assemblies with 2 : 3 and 2 : 2 host–guest stoichiometry.

The distribution and genetic diversity of the common hamsterCricetus cricetusin Central and Western Romania

2015

The existing literature, museum records, personal reports of field biologists and our own field results were compiled to assess the present distribution of the common hamster within Transylvania and the Pannonian Plain of Romania. Combining available distribution data and the existence of natural barriers we were able to designate five, possibly separate, populations: the Pannonian Plain, the Transylvanian Plateau, the Olt Valley, the Brasov Depression and the Ciuc Depression population. The Pannonian Plain and the Transylvanian Plateau populations showed mass outbreaks in recent years. Twenty three individuals were available for the genetic analyses. The populations belonged to the Pannoni…
