Polyelectrolytes on block copolymer surfaces

Soft lithography and properties of amphiphilic block copolymers are combined in a new technique for the generation of patterned substrates, which can be used in different ways as templates for further processing. In these processing steps the deposition of polyelectrolytes, metals and grafting from polymerizations are used for the construction of different structures.

Photo-oxidation of polypropylene/graphene nanoplatelets composites

Abstract The photo-oxidation behaviour of polymer nanocomposites depends not only on the photo-oxidation behaviour of the matrix, but also on the chemical composition, on the physical properties of the nanoparticles and on the possible interactions between the two phases. In the case of nanocomposites with carbonaceous particles, the main effect is a photo-stabilization due to the absorption of the UV energy and the radical scavenging action. AN ACCURATE METHOD TO PREDICT THE STRESS CONCENTRATION IN COMPOSITE LAMINATES WITH A CIRCULAR HOLE UNDER TENSILE LOADING

The paper presents a theoretical-numerical hybrid method for determining the stresses distribution in composite laminates containing a circular hole and subjected to uniaxial tensile loading. The method is based upon an appropriate corrective function allowing a simple and rapid evaluation of stress distributions in a generic plate of finite width with a hole based on the theoretical stresses distribution in an infinite plate with the same hole geometry and material. Analysis of multipactor RF breakdown in a waveguide containing a transversely magnetized ferrite

In this paper, the multipactor RF breakdown in a parallel-plate waveguide partially filled with a ferrite slab magnetized normal to the metallic plates is studied. An external magnetic field is applied along the vertical direction between the plates in order to magnetize the ferrite. Numerical simulations using an in-house 3-D code are carried out to obtain the multipactor RF voltage threshold in this kind of structures. The presented results show that the multipactor RF voltage threshold at certain frequencies becomes considerably lower than for the corresponding classical metallic parallel-plate waveguide with the same vacuum gap

Characterization of Sn-Co nanowires grown into alumina template

Nanowires of Sn-Co alloys were grown inside the channels of anodic alumina membrane by potentiostatic deposition. The scanning electron microscope images showed the formation of cylindrical nanowires whose height was increasing with deposition time. The X-ray patterns did not show significant diffraction peaks, suggesting the formation of amorphous phases. The higher content of Co in the nanowires, in comparison to the initial composition of the electrolytic bath, was attributed to a higher rate of Co electrodeposition. Fractal photon sieve

2006

A novel focusing structure with fractal properties is presented. It is a photon sieve in which the pinholes are appropriately distributed over the zones of a fractal zone plate. The focusing properties of the fractal photon sieve are analyzed. The good performance of our proposal is demonstrated experimentally with a series of images obtained under white light illumination. It is shown that compared with a conventional photon sieve, the fractal photon sieve exhibits an extended depth of field and a reduced chromatic aberration.

On the Effect of Interference Fits in Composite Pin-Joints

The Finite Element Method is used to determine the effect of pin/hole interference fits on the elastic membranal behavior of an orthotropic plate loaded in tension through a pin. A complete contact analysis is performed to handle the nonlinear contact problem. The study encompasses two levels of interference fits, two degrees of anisotropy of the plate, and two load levels. Friction effects are not included. Experimental results from Digital Speckle Pattern Interferometry are also presented. Layered-Expanded Mesostructured Silicas: Generalized Synthesis and Functionalization

Mesostructured layered silicas have been prepared through a surfactant-assisted procedure using neutral alkylamines as templates and starting from atrane complexes as hydrolytic inorganic precursors. By adjusting the synthetic parameters, this kinetically controlled reproducible one-pot method allows for obtaining both pure and functionalized (inorganic or organically) lamellar silica frameworks. These are easily deconstructed and built up again, which provides a simple way for expanding the interlamellar space. The materials present high dispersibility, which results in stable colloidal suspensions.

Design and Implementation of Density Sensor for Liquids Using Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor

In this paper, an optical fiber sensor based density sensor is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. The sensor is formed by fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor. The proposed sensor design is very simple and versatile for density measurements of liquids. The FBG strain sensor has one end mounted to a 3D printed rigid support, and the other end connected to a 3D manufactured clamp in this sensor design. A metal ball is suspended from this clamp by a non-stretchable cord. When it is completely immersed in liquid, the liquid buoyancy force acts on it.
