The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of topographic and biomimetic collagen modifications of a xenogenic bone substitute material (BSM) on in vitro platelet activation and cytokine release. Currently it is accepted that deep vein thrombosis is a multifactorial event in which the presence of activated platelets and also plasmatic lipids seems to play a pivotal role that it is not well established in the scientific bibliography. Due to the non consensus state about these topics between the different groups working in these aspects, the topic involving deep vein thrombosis-platelets-lipids, and also their interactions, still is an interesting area of investigation, in which it is necessary to carry out studies with the aim of establishing risk factors, initial diagnostic methods and clinical assays to probe the efficacy of new therapies.

Effect of graphene nanoplatelets on the dielectric permittivity and segmental motions of electrospun poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) nanofibers

The influence of the addition of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) on the intra/inter – molecular segmental motions of poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) (EVOH) was assessed by means of dielectric thermal analysis (DETA). The relaxation spectra were studied in terms of the dielectric permittivity (ε′) and the dielectric loss tangent (tan δ) at wide ranges of frequency (from 10−2 to 107 Hz) and temperature (from -150 to 140 °C). Two relaxation zones were disthinguished. Reply to "The association of red blood cell distribution width and morbid obesity" by Aydin et al.

We thank Aydin & cols. for their comments about our recently published paper “Red blood cell distribution width is not related with inflammatory parameters in morbidly obese patients” in Clinical Biochemistry Journal [1]. The authors show their concern about the clinical interpretation of our findings since we did not report folate and B12 vitamin levels. Moreover, they state that we should demonstrate the elimination of thrombocytopenic diseases by showing platelet count data. Aswe state in the paper, exclusion criteria for obese patients included “organic, malignant, hematological, infectious or inflammatory disease”. Bone substitute materials (BSM) are widely used in oral regeneration, but sufficient angiogenesis is crucial for osteogenesis. The combination of BSM with autologous thrombocyte concentrations such as platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) may represent a clinical approach to overcome this limitation.
