Sobre la Risa y el Malestar en la Cultura / On Laughter and Discomfort in Civilization

2017

Palabras clave: Risa, Malestar en la Cultura, Placer, Subversión, BakhtinAbstractThis paper aims to present the relations between laughter and cultural discomfort, analysing the works of S. Freud, H. Plessner and M. Bakhtin. We will propose that l…

Artificial Pleasure and Pain Antagonism Mechanism in a Social Robot

2017

The goal of the work is to build some Python modules that allow the Nao robot to emulate a somatosensorial system similar to the human one. Assuming it can perceive some feelings similar to the ones recognized by the human system, it will be possible to make it react appropriately to the external stimuli. The idea is to have a group of software sensors working simultaneously, providing some feedback to show how the robot is feeling at a particular time. It will be able to feel articular pain and stress, to perceive people in his surroundings (and in a future work to react according to the knowledge of them with face recognition), feel pleasure by recognizing caresses on his head and respond…

2015

It is with great pleasure to wish all our readers, authors and reviewers a happy and healthy new year 2016! Dentomaxillofacial Radiology is fortunate to look back on some rather successful years. Our speciality, that is, oral and maxillofacial (radiological) imaging gained increasing importance over the past decade, which is predominantly a result of the success of CBCT. Lately, we have seen an increasing number of articles (e.g. Petersen Johan Aps Gang Li

Satiety in face of variety: On sensory-specific satiety and perceived food variety

2013

Sensory-specific satiety (SSS) is the relative decrease in sensory pleasure derived from a specific food or drink with its consumption. Such satiation does not require ingestion, but hinges on exposure to a given flavour. As it affects meal termination, it is important in determining overall intake. Variety in a meal or dish undermines SSS and promotes consumption of the meal. In the present study, the hypothesis that the mere presentation and suggestion of food variety can undermine SSS was examined in a sample of 92 undergraduate students. All participants ate several bite-sized servings of a test food to induce SSS, but participants in the experimental group were shown another food durin…

The importance of wine attributes for purchase decisions: A study of Italian consumers’ perception

2013

"The importance of extrinsic and intrinsic attributes of wine for purchase decisions is the object of a lively debate. As a matter of fact, in recent decades, the shift of consumption motivations from nutritional purposes to drinking for pleasure has caused a persistent decrease in the overall demand. However, the increasing number of product varieties and brands of domestic and imported wine, as well as the increased diversity in wine styles and prices, make the identification of wine purchase drivers difficult. This article investigates the importance of product attributes for Italian consumers when choosing wine. Specifically, a class of statistical models for ordinal data, namely CUB, i…

Coordinated Interpersonal Behaviour in Collective Dance Improvisation: The Aesthetics of Kinaesthetic Togetherness

2018

International audience; Collective dance improvisation (e.g., traditional and social dancing, contact improvisation) is a participatory, relational and embodied art form which eschews standard concepts in aesthetics. We present our ongoing research into the mechanisms underlying the lived experience of "togetherness" associated with such practices. Togetherness in collective dance improvisation is kinaesthetic (based on movement and its perception), and so can be simultaneously addressed from the perspective of the performers and the spectators, and be measured. We utilise these multiple levels of description: the first-person, phenomenological level of personal experiences, the third-perso…

Digital Storytelling in Teacher Training: Development of Basic Competences, Creativity and Multimodal Literacy Through Book Trailers

2018

In this chapter, the need of the integration of media and information and communication technologies in the literary education is addressed, not only from the point of view of the training in access to information and diffusion, but also in terms of the communicative situations of production and reception of literary texts. In this sense, the authors analyze the potential of digital storytelling in teacher training as a tool for the acquisition and development of basics competences, the promotion of creativity and the adquisition of the multimodal literacy of students. This research focuses on the use of book trailers as a way to enhance reading habits acquisition and to make students disco…

Malebranche: el placer dinámico y ordenado

2021

From technology engineering to social engineering

2007

Virtual worlds have a long history, and it also includes various technologies. Yet research interest towards them has diverged over the years. It seems that nowadays they are on focus again with the evolution of socially oriented and community-supporting virtual worlds. Instead of technical factors, human factors and the motivation behind the use are highlighted. In this paper, we will briefly review the research efforts made in the 90's, and derive a set of themes that were of interest back then. Next, we will expand the set by arguing for newer themes, identified in the latest information systems literature. These two sets of themes form a basis of a research agenda for studying virtual w…
