Spatial information transmission using orthogonal mutual coherence coding.

We use the coherence of a light beam to encode spatial information. We apply this principle to obtain spatial superresolution in a limited aperture system. The method is based on shaping the mutual intensity function of the illumination beam in a set of orthogonal distributions, each one carrying the information for a different frequency bandpass or spatial region of the input object. The coherence coding is analogous to time multiplexing but with multiplexing time slots that are given by the coherence time of the illumination beam. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing based on offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OFDM-OQAM) is a multicarrier signaling technique which trades off robustness for spectral efficiency when compared to conventional OFDM with a cyclic prefix. Conventional microscopes do not capture the 3D information of thick specimens. In order to avoid this limitation Integral Microscopy was proposed. An integral microscope is implemented by inserting a microlens array between the microscope objective and the camera sensor. Although this device captures multiperspective information of the specimen, the small number of microlenses limits the lateral resolution. An Improved Detection Technique for Cyclic-Prefixed OFDM

A novel Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing detection technique compatible to standard (e.g. Wireless LAN) transmitters is proposed. It features enhanced error-rate performance with flexible computational complexity and robustness to imperfect channel estimation. It is based on exploitation of the redundancy available in the cyclic prefix after cancellation of interference from the preceding block. In order to show the effectiveness of our proposal, an analysis of computational complexity and a number of comparisons to the standard per-subcarrier receiver and a previously existing method in terms of error rates are reported.

Space-division multiplexing (SDM) attracts attention to cladding-pumped optical amplifiers, but they suffer from a low pump power conversion efficiency. A polarimetric sensor based on nanoporous free standing membranes

A polarimetric sensor with state of the art sensitivity is developed using free standing porous silicon membranes. The use of an optimized etching receipt greatly reduces the pore roughness. Depolarization factors are thus limited and material birefringence is increased. Free standing membranes are fabricated in n-type substrates and characterized both from the optical and structural point of view. The proposed approach is fully CMOS compatible and can therefore pave the way to the development of cheap microarray that exploits multiplexing capabilities while keeping the amount of analyte required by the analysis down to the microliter level.
CORAL Server and CORAL Server Proxy: Scalable Access to Relational Databases from CORAL Applications

The CORAL software is widely used at CERN for accessing the data stored by the LHC experiments using relational database technologies. CORAL provides a C++ abstraction layer that supports data persistency for several backends and deployment models, including local access to SQLite files, direct client access to Oracle and MySQL servers, and read-only access to Oracle through the FroNTier web server and cache. In this paper, the ultra-wideband channel with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (UWB-OFDM) is analyzed in the frequency domain. For UWB-OFDM channels with log-normal fading in the time domain, we show that the amplitude of each subcarrier can be approximated by a Nakagami-m random variable, where the fading parameter, the mean power and the correlation coefficient are expressed in terms of the following parameters: time arrival of the clusters, inter-arrival time of rays inside clusters, and power decay constants of rays and clusters.

Mammalian plexins constitute a family of transmembrane receptors for semaphorins and represent critical regulators of various processes during development of the nervous, cardiovascular, skeletal, and renal system. In vitro studies have shown that plexins exert their effects via an intracellular R-Ras/M-Ras GTPase-activating protein (GAP) domain or by activation of RhoA through interaction with Rho guanine nucleotide exchange factor proteins.
