Topological Dual Systems for Spaces of Vector Measure p-Integrable Functions

[EN] We show a Dvoretzky-Rogers type theorem for the adapted version of the q-summing operators to the topology of the convergence of the vector valued integrals on Banach function spaces. In the pursuit of this objective we prove that the mere summability of the identity map does not guarantee that the space has to be finite dimensional, contrary to the classical case. Some local compactness assumptions on the unit balls are required. Our results open the door to new convergence theorems and tools regarding summability of series of integrable functions and approximation in function spaces, since we may find infinite dimensional spaces in which convergence of the integrals, our vector value…

The Bourgain property and convex hulls

We consider the following problem: Given a function f: Ω X for which there is a norming set B ⊂ BX * such that Zf,B = {x * ○ f: x * ∈ B } is uniformly integrable and has the Bourgain property, does it follow that f is Birkhoff integrable? It turns out that this question is equivalent to the following one: Given a pointwise bounded family ℋ ⊂ ℝΩ with the Bourgain property, does its convex hull co(ℋ) have the Bourgain property? The pragmatics of political messages in twitter communication

The aim of the current paper is to formulate a conception of pragmatic patterns characterizing the construction of individual and collective identities in virtual communities (in our case: the Twitter community). We have explored several theoretical approaches and frameworks and relevant empirical data to show that the agents building virtual communities are 'extended selves' grounded in a highly dynamic and compressed, linguistically mediated virtual network structure. Limits of Sobolev homeomorphisms

Let X; Y subset of R-2 be topologically equivalent bounded Lipschitz domains. We prove that weak and strong limits of homeomorphisms h: X (onto)-> Y in the Sobolev space W-1,W-p (X, R-2), p >= 2; are the same. A sharp estimate of the extinction time for the mean curvature flow

We establish a pointwise comparison result for a nonlinear degenerate elliptic Dirichlet problem using an isoperimetric inequality involving the total mean curvature. In particular this result provides a sharp estimate for the extinction time of a class of compact surfaces, wider than the convex one, moving by mean curvature flow. Finally we present numerical experiments to compare our estimate with those known in literature.

On the solutions to 1-Laplacian equation with L1 data

AbstractIn the present paper we study the behaviour, as p goes to 1, of the renormalized solutions to the problems(0.1){−div(|∇up|p−2∇up)=finΩ,up=0on∂Ω, where p>1, Ω is a bounded open set of RN (N⩾2) with Lipschitz boundary and f belongs to L1(Ω). We prove that these renormalized solutions pointwise converge, up to “subsequences,” to a function u. With a suitable definition of solution we also prove that u is a solution to a “limit problem.” Moreover we analyze the situation occurring when more regular data f are considered.

General aggregation operators based on a fuzzy equivalence relation in the context of approximate systems

Our paper deals with special constructions of general aggregation operators, which are based on a fuzzy equivalence relation and provide upper and lower approximations of the pointwise extension of an ordinary aggregation operator. We consider properties of these approximations and explore their role in the context of extensional fuzzy sets with respect to the corresponding equivalence relation. We consider also upper and lower approximations of a t-norm extension of an ordinary aggregation operator. Finally, we describe an approximate system, considering the lattice of all general aggregation operators and the lattice of all fuzzy equivalence relations.

Measuring Dissimilarity Between Curves by Means of Their Granulometric Size Distributions

The choice of a dissimilarity measure between curves is a key point for clustering functional data. Functions are usually pointwise compared and, in many situations, this approach is not appropriate. Mathematical Morphology provides us with a toolbox to overcome this problem. We propose some dissimilarity measures based on morphological granulometries and their performance is evaluated on some functional datasets.
