Study of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon computed from the Adler function

2014

We compute the Adler function on the lattice from vacuum polarization data with twisted boundary conditions using numerical derivatives. The study is based on CLS ensembles with two flavours of $O(a)$ improved Wilson fermions. We extrapolate the lattice data for the Adler function to the continuum limit and to the physical pion mass and analyze its dependence on the momentum transfer. We discuss the application of this method to the extraction of the $u,d$ contribution to $a_\mu^{\mathrm{HLO}}$.

Momentum partition between constituents of exotic atoms during laser-induced tunneling ionization

2015

The tunneling ionization of exotic atoms such as muonic hydrogen, muonium, and positronium in a strong laser field of circular polarization is investigated, taking into account the impact of the motion of the center of mass on the the tunneling ionization dynamics. The momentum partition between the ionization products is deduced. The effect of the center-of-mass motion for the momentum distribution of the ionization components is determined. The effect scales with the ratio of the electron (muon) to the atomic core masses and is nonnegligible for exotic atoms, while being insignificant for common atoms. It is shown that the electron (muon) momentum shift during the under-the-barrier motion…

Brief encounter at the molecular level: what muons tell us about molecule-based magnets

2005

Abstract Spin-polarized muons can be implanted in various molecular magnetic materials in order to measure static and dynamic magnetic field distributions at a local level. The positively-charged muon is an unstable, radioactive particle which has spin–1/2, a lifetime of 2.2 μ S , about one-ninth of the proton mass and a magnetic moment of approximately 1/200 μ B . Both pulsed and continuous beams of muons can be produced with almost 100% spin polarization and significant intensity at various accelerator facilities. The subsequent decay of the muon into a positron allows the extraction of the muon-spin autocorrelation function which can be related to the magnetic field distribution inside a…

A common optical algorithm for the evaluation of specular spin polarized neutron and Mössbauer reflectivities

2001

Using the general approach of Lax for multiple scattering of waves a 2x2 covariant expression for the reflectivity of polarized slow neutrons of a magnetic layer structure of arbitrary complexity is given including polarization effects of the external magnetic field. The present formalism is identical to the earlier published one for the (nuclear) resonant X-ray (Mossbauer) reflectivity and properly takes the effect of the external magnetic field of arbitrary direction on the neutron beam into account. The form of the reflectivity matrix allows for an efficient numerical calculation.

Molecular polarizability of semiconductor clusters and nanostructures

2002

Abstract The interacting-induced-dipoles polarization model implemented in program PAPID is used for the calculation of the molecular dipole–dipole polarizability α . The method is tested with Si n , Ge n and GanAsm small clusters. On varying the number of atoms, the clusters show numbers indicative of particularly polarizable structures. The results for the polarizability are in agreement with reference calculations from Chelikowsky. The bulk limit for the polarizability is estimated from the Clausius–Mossotti relationship. The polarizability trend for these clusters as a function of size is different from what one might have expected. The clusters are all more polarizable than what one mi…

Measurement and interpretation of the polarization of the x-ray line emission of heliumlike Fe XXV excited by an electron beam

1996

The linear polarization of the 1s2p${\mathrm{}}^{1}$${\mathit{P}}_{1}$\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1${\mathit{s}}^{2}$${\mathrm{}}^{1}$${\mathit{S}}_{0}$ resonance line, the 1s2p${\mathrm{}}^{3}$${\mathit{P}}_{1,2}$\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1${\mathit{s}}^{2}$${\mathrm{}}^{1}$${\mathit{S}}_{0}$ intercombination lines, and the 1s2s${\mathrm{}}^{3}$${\mathit{S}}_{1}$\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1${\mathit{s}}^{2}$${\mathrm{}}^{1}$${\mathit{S}}_{0}$ forbidden line was measured in heliumlike Fe XXV excited near threshold by a monoenergetic electron beam. The measurement was carried out with a high-resolution x-ray spectrometer employing a set of two analyzing crystals that acted as polarizers by selectivel…

Energy-exchange collision of the Manakov vector solitons under strong environmental perturbations

2007

International audience; We use a collective-variable approach to study the dynamical behavior of vector solitons in the Manakov system under strong environmental perturbations induced by the fiber losses and a modified cross-phase modulation parameter. We identify and discuss the salient features associated with energy-exchange collisions of transmissional and reflectional types. Particularly, we find that such perturbations can induce important effects not only on fundamental soliton parameters such as the peak power, central position, width, chirp, and frequency, but also on the nature of the collision. Interestingly, we find that the perturbations lead to only a slight alteration of coll…

Efficient control of the energy exchange due to the Manakov vector-soliton collision

2003

By examining the concept of energy exchange among the orthogonally polarized components of each of two colliding (Manakov-like) vector solitons it is observed that a maximum or an efficient energy-exchange process is possible only for an appropriate choice of the initial physical parameters (namely, frequency separation, polarizations, time delay, and pulse-width separation between the colliding solitons) for which L(W) (walk-off length) >>L(NL) (nonlinear length). However, in this case only, the amount of energy-exchange can be considerably increased or decreased by appropriately changing the phases of colliding solitons without altering the walk-off length and the initial energy distribut…

Polar Sets in a Nonlinear Potential Theory

1988

In this lecture we discuss nonlinear potential theory based on “A-super-harmonic functions”; the theory can be viewed as a (nonlinear) extension of the classical study of superharmonic functions in ℝn.

Transverse patterns in degenerate optical parametric oscillation and degenerate four-wave mixing.

1996

Transverse pattern formation in both degenerate optical parametric oscillation and degenerate four-wave mixing is considered both theoretically and numerically. In the limit of small signal detuning both systems are shown to be described by the real Swift-Hohenberg equation. Contrarily, for small signal and large pump detunings the Swift-Hohenberg equation is modified differently in both systems, by the appearance of additional nonlinear terms, which signal the existence of nonlinear resonances that are theoretically studied through the derivation of the amplitude equation for the roll pattern in both systems. Numerical analysis supports the theoretical predictions. \textcopyright{} 1996 Th…
