Messung der zirkularen Polarisation der inneren und ueren Bremsstrahlung

1961

The polarisation of the internal bremsstrahlung γ's was detected by the Compton-forward-scattering with polarised electrons for three differentβ-decays: 1. for the allowed transition (P32), 2. for the unique forbidden transition (Sr90+Y90), and 3. for the forbidden transition with forbidden spectrum (Bi210=RaE). The detected polarisation values of P32 and (Sr90+Y90) agree with the theoretical values for the allowed transitions. The detected polarisation values for Bi210 are smaller than the theoretical values of the allowedβ-transition by a factor of 0.62±0.08.

Extended Thomas - Fermi expansion from nuclear linear response

1996

The coefficients of the successive orders of the extended Thomas - Fermi expansion of the kinetic energy density are obtained to the leading order in the density inhomogeneities. This is done by comparing the corresponding static polarizability with the exact value in two cases: a non-interacting nuclear infinite system and symmetric nuclear matter with a Skyrme interaction.

Determining the Θ+ quantum numbers through the K+p→π+K+n reaction

2004

Abstract We study the K+p→π+K+n reaction with some kinematics suited to the production of the Θ+ resonance recently observed. We show that, independently of the quantum numbers of the Θ+, a resonance signal is always observed in the K+ forward direction. In addition, we also show how a combined consideration of the strength at the peak, and the angular dependence of polarization observables can help determine the Θ+ quantum numbers using the present reaction.

Comparison of recoil polarization in the C12(e→,e′p→) process for protons extracted from s and p shells

2020

Abstract We present the first measurements of the double ratio of the polarization-transfer components ( P x ′ / P z ′ ) p / ( P x ′ / P z ′ ) s for knock-out protons from the s and p shells in C 12 measured by the C 12 ( e → , e ′ p → ) reaction in quasi-elastic kinematics. The data are compared to theoretical predictions in the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation. Our results show that the differences between s- and p-shell protons, observed when compared at the same initial momentum (missing momentum), largely disappear when the comparison is done at the same proton virtuality. We observe no difference in medium modifications between protons from the s and p shells with the…

Measurement of polarization-transfer to bound protons in carbon and its virtuality dependence

2017

We measured the ratio Px/Pz of the transverse to longitudinal components of polarization transferred from electrons to bound protons in C12 by the C12(e→,e′p→) process at the Mainz Microtron (MAMI). We observed consistent deviations from unity of this ratio normalized to the free-proton ratio, (Px/Pz)C12/(Px/Pz)H1, for both s- and p-shell knocked out protons, even though they are embedded in averaged local densities that differ by about a factor of two. The dependence of the double ratio on proton virtuality is similar to the one for knocked out protons from H2 and He4, suggesting a universal behavior. It further implies no dependence on average local nuclear density.

Polarization-transfer measurement to a large-virtuality bound proton in the deuteron

2017

Possible differences between free and bound protons may be observed in the ratio of polarization-transfer components, $P'_x/P'_z$. We report the measurement of $P'_x/P'_z$, in the $^2\textrm{H}(\vec{e},e^{\prime}\vec{p})n$ reaction at low and high missing momenta. Observed increasing deviation of $P'_x/P'_z$ from that of a free proton as a function of the virtuality, similar to that observed in \hefour, indicates that the effect in nuclei is due to the virtuality of the knock-out proton and not due to the average nuclear density. The measured differences from calculations assuming free-proton form factors ($\sim10\%$), may indicate in-medium modifications.

Proton polarization in the p(e,e′p)π0 reaction and the measurement of quadrupole components in the N to Δ transition

1998

The recoil proton polarization in the π0 production off the proton with longitudinally polarized electron beam has been studied as a means to measure quadrupole components in the N to Δ transition. On top of the Δ resonance a high sensitivity to a possible Coulomb quadrupole excitation is found in parallel kinematics. The ratio of S1+/M1+ multipole amplitudes can be determined from the ratio of the two in-scattering-plane recoil proton polarization components. Avoiding the absolute measurement of the polarizations, such a ratio allows small experimental uncertainties. Furthermore, the electron helicity independent proton polarization component enables the characterization of resonant and no…

Study of polarization observables in double pion photoproduction on the proton

2001

Using a model for two pion photoproduction on the proton previously tested in total cross sections and invariant mass distributions, we evaluate here polarization observables on which recent experiments are providing new information. We evaluate cross sections for spin 1/2 and 3/2, which are measured at Mainz and play an important role in tests of the GHD sum rule. We also evaluate the proton polarization asymmetry $\Sigma$ which is currently under investigation at GRAAL in Grenoble.

Polarization transfer in the 4HeH reaction

2001

Abstract Polarization transfer in the 4He ( e → ,e′ p → ) 3 H reaction at a Q2 of 0.4 (GeV/c)2 was measured at the Mainz Microtron MAMI. The ratio of the transverse to the longitudinal polarization components of the ejected protons was compared with the same ratio for elastic ep scattering. The results are consistent with a recent fully relativistic calculation which includes a predicted medium modification of the proton form factor based on a quark–meson coupling model.

Vacuum polarization around stars: Nonlocal approximation

2004

We compute the vacuum polarization associated with quantum massless fields around stars with spherical symmetry. The nonlocal contribution to the vacuum polarization is dominant in the weak field limit, and induces quantum corrections to the exterior metric that depend on the inner structure of the star. It also violates the null energy conditions. We argue that similar results also hold in the low energy limit of quantum gravity. Previous calculations of the vacuum polarization in spherically symmetric spacetimes, based on local approximations, are not adequate for newtonian stars.
