Somali refugees who fled the collapse of their homeland and resettled in EU narrate ‘who they are’ through the graphic novel Meet the Somalis. This paper explores their counter/story to undermine the Fortress Europe’s discourse. The main issue is to look at the diaspora through the trajectory of the journey and the “settling in” phase. The graphic novel as “remarkable antidote” (Said, 2002) narrates stereotypes, racisms and successes of the Somali people, helping the reader to understand them as individuals, with distinct experiences and separate stories.

This essay aims to explore the Mediterranean Sea as a geopolitical space of conflict and dominion through the lens of border and diasporic studies, and to look for those voices coming from “the colonial” as a process that put in crisis the Western hegemonic narration. The aim of this chapter is to show how belonging to the Jewish Community as well as to the Italian left contributed to create the identity of certain Italian Jews. Through three life stories an attempt will be made to demonstrate that this link with the left-wing movement, which was very strong in the 1960s and 1970s, started to disappear in the early 1980s. Also for this reason, 1992 is considered a watershed year, a crucial date for the end of the “First Republic”. This paper deals with some letters by Ferrara written between the years 1864 an 1870, except for the year 1869. They are about thirty-two hand written letters, among wich some have never been published. They were sent by Francesco Ferrara to his daughter Lilli and to Giuseppe Bracco Amari (Pepè).In these letters Ferrara refers to personal events commenting both on some figures and the political life of his time. he particulary wrote about his involvement in the Italian Financial politics, his suffered decision of taking part directly in the Reign government and the consequences of the stock market crisis for his family.
